Software Engineering Manager (Hardware Accelerate)

WHOOP is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team within the Hardware Accelerate team, which builds the software platform that enables and enhances hardware and embedded development. This team’s work is critical to delivering robust systems that streamline internal workflows and empower engineers to focus on breakthroughs in product and hardware.

In this role, you will have both technical and people management responsibilities. On the technical side, you’ll work closely with embedded engineering teams and internal stakeholders to refine requirements and scope scalable solutions. You’ll support the team in shaping technical designs, architecture, and operational best practices, helping maintain high standards for reliability, flexibility, security, and user sentiment. On the people side, you’ll lead and mentor a team of hardware-oriented software engineers by providing regular feedback and fostering professional growth. You’ll be instrumental in promoting a positive, high-performance culture grounded in innovation, teamwork, psychological safety, and continuous learning.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers responsible for building platforms that integrate with embedded and hardware systems and initiatives

  • Define technical strategy, architecture, and design for features that support those hardware development-focused initiatives

  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to understand embedded and hardware development needs and translate them into scalable systems

  • Maintain engineering best practices in development, testing, and deployment processes

  • Serve as a player-coach by contributing technically while driving team delivery and growth

  • Provide regular mentorship, feedback, and coaching to team members to support their professional development and growth

  • Foster a culture of innovation, psychological safety, collaboration, and continuous learning

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience as a hands-on software developer combined with a proven track record in engineering management

  • Strong technical skills in software development, testing, and deployment

  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams and deliver complex, cross-functional projects

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to align technical and business priorities

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with a strong sense of ownership

  • Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions

PREFERRED

  • Experience leading software teams working with hardware and embedded systems

  • Experience or background in or knowledge of electrical and embedded systems


This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.

At WHOOP, we view total compensation as the combination of base salary, equity, and benefits, with equity serving as a key differentiator that aligns our employees with the long-term success of the company and allows every member of our corporate team to own part of WHOOP and share in the company’s long-term growth and success.

 

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $150,000 - $215,000 Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training.

 

In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package.

These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
