Job Description:

At Cloudera, we empower people to transform complex data into clear and actionable insights. With as much data under management as the hyperscalers, we're the preferred data partner for the top companies in almost every industry.  Powered by the relentless innovation of the open source community, Cloudera advances digital transformation for the world’s largest enterprises.

As Director of Product Evangelism at Cloudera, you’ll lead the evangelism program including delivery of hands-on technical marketing and evangelism support to help customers and communities understand the full potential of Cloudera’s open hybrid platform for data, analytics and AI with a heavy focus on leading-edge capabilities for AI and Generative AI. You’ll play a foundational role in driving evangelism and developer relations for Cloudera, including crafting engaging technical content, building demos, and evangelizing Cloudera’s unique value in data, analytics, and AI. This role is ideal for a passionate and successful product evangelism leader looking to continue to grow a community of practitioners through engaging in the latest technology as a thought leader in data, analytics, and all things AI.

As the Director of Product Evangelism you will:

  • Define and execute the evangelism program for all of Cloudera.

  • Keep yourself up to date on the latest innovations in data, analytics, and especially AI.

  • Produce technical marketing content, including business-centric technical blog posts, social media updates, how-to guides and tutorials, and thought leadership pieces on emerging topics, and Cloudera’s latest innovations.

  • Lead hackathons, meetups, third-party summits, and community engagement by building demos, and presenting Cloudera’s solutions in engaging ways to build brand recognition within relevant open-source and other related professional communities.

  • Develop and refine demos with keen storytelling by working with leaders in Product Management to convey the real-world impact of Cloudera’s solutions, to be used in customer meetings, live or recorded online content, analyst briefings, and industry conferences.

  • Engage in social media and other communities by providing commentary on relevant topics and trends.

  • Enable Cloudera’s sales teams by collaborating on use cases, success stories, and live demos to showcase the practical value of Cloudera’s capabilities. Support sales directly by participating in customer meetings.

  • Participate as an author and presenter of talks for webinars, conferences, and industry events, to position Cloudera as a leader in its markets.

  • Work cross-functionally to grow and support technical evangelism throughout Cloudera together with product managers, product marketing managers, and leading field subject matter experts.

  • 80% travel (70% domestic, 30% international)

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • An existing community following or proven ability to create a technology practitioner or developer following for a product or brand. Participation in an open source project as a chair or committer is a big plus.

  • Proven technical marketing aptitude through employment experience or recent coursework, especially with respect to emerging AI technologies, with a passion for translating complex technical concepts into engaging content.

  • Excellent storytelling skills when writing and communicating in ways that capture both technical and business audiences, including experience talking to both C-suite executives and deeply technical practitioners.

  • A track record in staying engaged with current data, analytics, and AI trends, especially in open-source communities and other in-person or online forums, with examples of relevant commentary and engagement.

  • Collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with product, engineering, sales, and marketing to develop high-impact content, demos, and enablement resources.

  • Organizational skills and initiative to work independently while supporting multiple tight deadlines.

  • Previous team leadership experience

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
