ARE YOU READY TO TAKE YOUR CAREER TO NEW HEIGHTS? ARE YOU SEEKING A NEW CHALLENGE IN A DYNAMIC SECTOR?

This is a very exciting and highly innovative time here at Outside.

OUR TRUE NORTH:Outside Interactive, Inc., the premier hub for active lifestyle enthusiasts, offers best-in-class content and experiences to more than 70 million of the world’s most passionate outdoor, wellness, and endurance enthusiasts every month. We inspire a broad and diverse audience to do the activities they love with greater enjoyment, inspiration, and knowledge and are dedicated to making real change in the outdoor and fitness industries.

Velo is looking for a gear-obsessed editor to join our team. We need someone who lives for the details, whether it’s the tire clearance of a new gravel frame or the firmware on a family e-bike.

You aren’t just parroting specs, you are testing gear honestly, explaining why it matters, and helping the cycling community make better decisions. You will write gear news, deep-dive reviews, and feature stories, while also getting in front of the camera to produce video content.

If you have mechanical chops, a "video-first" mindset, and the ability to turn a complex spec sheet into a compelling story, we want to hear from you.

We measure success by your impact, not just your hours. Here is what your first year looks like:

Within 1 Month, you will:

  • Learn the systems: Master our CMS (WordPress) and editorial workflows (Asana, Slack, Google Workspace).
  • Start the flow: Organize your immediate testing queue and begin publishing daily news and get products in the pipeline for weekly reviews.
  • Establish your voice: Publish enough high-quality work that our readers start to recognize (and trust) your byline.

Within 6 Months, you will:

  • Own the visuals: Routinely self-film and edit video content to support your written reviews.
  • Prioritize: Identify and prioritize the stories and topics that are the most valuable and interesting to the cycling community.
  • Create a franchise: Launch a column, testing format, or recurring series that is uniquely yours.
  • Support the big swings: Collaborate with the team to build our major seasonal Gear Guides.

Within 12 Months, you will:

  • Shape the strategy: Help leadership plan the editorial calendar and decide which products actually deserve our attention.
  • Be the authority: Establish yourself as an industry expert, traveling to launches (often overseas) and building direct relationships with key brands to get the scoop on what’s next.
What You Bring (Job Requirements)
  • Deep technical knowledge: You know how modern road, gravel, and e-bikes work, how to fix them, and how to push them to their limits.
  • Writing proficiency: You are fluent in English, and able to write effectively and clearly.
  • Content creation skills: You are comfortable holding a camera, shooting product photos, and editing video for social/web. You’re also comfortable getting in front of the camera.
  • Strong opinions, deep integrity: You can assess a product’s performance fairly and back up your claims with evidence.
  • Self-sufficiency: You can manage a testing schedule, hit deadlines, and coordinate shipping and receiving products without being micromanaged.
  • Travel capabilities: You have a valid passport, driver’s license, and ability to travel to attend press camps, races, and other relevant events.
  • Experience: 2+ years in journalism (or equivalent content creation) and experience in the cycling industry (shop, brand, or team) is preferred.

What We Offer:

Entirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $50,000 to $70,000. Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away, sick leave, and more. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors. The highest level of this salary range would be reserved for more experienced, senior level candidates, living in an area with the highest geographical differential.

We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. Outside Inc is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other legally protected characteristics. Pursuant to applicable laws, we also make accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities. We believe a diverse team is a strong team, and we encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply.
