Role Description

As FNZ continues to build its next-generation wealth management platform, we’re looking for a Tax Reporting Manager to help lead our daily tax operations.

You’ll play a key role in supporting system development, managing tax reporting processes, and delivering compliance excellence across both U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions. This position blends technical tax knowledge with operational insight to support large scale operations for wealth clients—including individuals, trusts, corporations, and partnerships. You’ll join a collaborative, agile team and report directly to the VP of Tax Operations for North America.

Role Responsibilities

Tax Reporting & Compliance

  • Lead day-to-day tax activities, including withholding tax monitoring and remittance to tax authorities (U.S.: IRS / State; Canada: CRA / RQ).
  • Oversee client tax reporting deliverables (U.S.: Forms 1099, 5498, RMDs; Canada: T3, T5, NR4, T5008).
  • Analyze investment transactions for tax reporting purposes: corporate actions, dividend/interest, gain/loss, amortization/accretion, and cost basis adjustments.
  • Manage tax lot corrections, inheritance step-ups (DOD), and support fixed income reporting (e.g., OID, MBS, REMIC).
  • Support accurate tax reporting for accounts such as IRA/NRA (Canada: RRSP, TFSA, RESP, RDSP) and registered/non-registered investment plans.
  • Ensure timely distribution of tax data to advisors and stakeholders.
  • Propose and implement process improvements to drive reporting accuracy and efficiency.

Tax Subject Matter Expert (SME) & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the internal go-to for tax questions from operations, product, and client-facing teams.
  • Support new client onboarding and tax-related platform integrations.
  • Participate in daily tax meetings, contributing insights to streamline operations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align with product development, legal, and compliance teams.

Experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • Ideal candidate will have 5+ years of tax reporting or similar experience in a wealth management, investment, or financial services setting (U.S. or Canadian markets).
  • Strong understanding of IRS and/or CRA tax regulations impacting investment accounts and reporting.
  • Experience with tax reporting for registered and non-registered investment accounts (e.g., IRA/TFSA, Trusts, Corps, LLCs, RRSPs).
  • Solid knowledge of wealth management operations; corporate actions taxability, cost basis adjustments, and withholding tax processing.
  • Comfortable navigating tech platforms and collaborating with tech teams. Familiarity with systems such as BetaNXT Maxit, SQL, or wealth accounting tools a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

NOTE: This is a hybrid role where you will be required to work out of our Toronto or Boston office.
