Tax Compliance is a division within Computershare responsible for processing notices and levies received from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as well as various state agencies.
The Tax Compliance role monitors and reviews the receipt, processing and mailing of various tax notices and forms in accordance with IRS, corporate, and department policies.
The Tax Compliance Analyst is also expected to work collaboratively across teams within Computershare supporting continuous improvement and project related activities.

Key Responsibilities:
The Tax Compliance Specialist is responsible for processing and administering a broad range of tax compliance activities, including Form W-9 and W-8 documentation, B-Notice and C-Notice mailings, backup withholding, non-resident alien withholding, and federal and state tax reporting. The role supports regulatory compliance by ensuring adherence to IRS and state reporting requirements while maintaining accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency in all tax-related processes. This position also coordinates the review and processing of IRS and State levies and stays current with applicable IRS regulations and specifications. The incumbent works closely with internal teams to resolve tax inquiries and support ongoing compliance obligations.
Key Accountabilities
- 30% of the role is dedicated to reviewing, coordinating, and processing IRS and State Levies, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and internal procedures.
- 30% of the role is focused on managing IRS B-Notices and C-Notices, including issuing notices, conducting follow-up activities, maintaining records, and ensuring adherence to IRS guidelines.
- 20% of the role involves reviewing, investigating, and responding to IRS Civil Penalties, ensuring timely resolution and accurate documentation.
- 20% of the role is dedicated to managing tax compliance workflow queues and tax-related inquiries, including support for Form W-9 and W-8 processing, backup withholding, non-resident alien withholding, and federal and state reporting obligations.
Key Measures of Success
- Meet established productivity, quality, timeliness, and efficiency standards for all assigned tax compliance activities.
- Ensure all IRS and state regulatory reporting requirements are completed accurately and within prescribed deadlines.
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state tax regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Effectively manage and resolve balancing items, exceptions, and compliance issues identified through regular reviews and weekly Tax Compliance Management meetings.
- Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail in the processing of levies, notices, withholding activities, and tax reporting obligations
What will you bring to the role?
Functional Knowledge
- Basic understanding of IRS tax compliance requirements and reporting obligations.
- Knowledge of W-9/W-8 forms, backup withholding, IRS notices, and levies preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures and deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Business Experience
- Understanding of how Tax Compliance supports departmental and business objectives.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams such as Client Services and Tax Reporting.
- Awareness of IRS and State regulatory requirements and reporting deadlines.
Leadership Skills
- No direct supervisory responsibilities.
- Provides support and guidance to team members as needed.
- May assist with small to medium continuous improvement initiatives.
Problem Solving
- Uses judgment to resolve routine tax compliance issues within established guidelines.
- Reviews and analyzes information to identify and address discrepancies.
- Escalates complex issues as appropriate.

- Ensures compliance with IRS and State requirements to minimize financial and regulatory risk.
- Responsible for the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of assigned tax compliance activities.

Education / Qualifications
Essential
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred
- Two years of post-secondary education.
- Two years of Transfer Agent, Tax Compliance, or related financial services experience.

Compensation. The typical base pay range for this role is USD $47,000 - $71,000.
