Who We Are

Our mission is simple but critical: to build pathways for adult learners to earn high-quality, workforce-aligned degrees and credentials from North Carolina’s public universities.

At Project Kitty Hawk, our work reflects our company values:

Collaboration – We prioritize our partners’ success and reputation, aligning every initiative with their goals, reflecting their values, and enhancing their impact.
Innovation – We innovate, not replicate. As creative problem solvers, we use data-driven insights to push boundaries, continuously improve our services, develop solutions, and redefine what it means to serve nontraditional learners.
Empathy – We understand the unique challenges of nontraditional learners, and are committed to supporting them with empathy, respect, and solutions that fit their needs.
Integrity – We operate with transparency and accountability in everything we do. We uphold honesty, take ownership of our work, and maintain the highest standards.
Teamwork – We embody the collaboration we seek. We always strive to be dependable, supportive, and solutions-oriented teammates.

Together, we partner with universities in the University of North Carolina (UNC) System to produce innovative, flexible degree and credential programs in high-demand fields. Each PKH team member plays a vital role in advancing this mission and shaping the future of education for adult learners.

These values will enable us to realize PKH’s vision: to make North Carolina’s public universities the top choice for adult learners and to amplify the UNC System’s role as a national leader in higher education innovation, access, and student success. By joining our team, you have an opportunity to contribute to our achievement of that vision, in the process helping to create opportunities for thousands of learners to earn their success and move up the economic ladder.

At Project Kitty Hawk we hire talented people who are not only dedicated to our mission but share our belief that working together makes us stronger and more effective. In this organization you’ll find individuals with a range of interesting backgrounds and life stories; the true magic happens when those individuals come together to solve problems in service of a common goal.

The Role

PKH is growing fast, and our Admissions and Student Success teams are the front line of that growth. We're looking for a part-time Talent Acquisition Partner to own sourcing and early-stage screening for these roles across our university partner cohorts (App State, NC A&T, ECU, NCCU, Winston-Salem State, UNCW). You'll work closely with People Operations and hiring managers to keep pipelines full, move candidates quickly, and make sure every applicant has a good experience — whether they get the job or not.

This is a great fit for someone who likes the sourcing-and-screening side of recruiting more than the offer-negotiation side, and who wants a flexible, part-time role with real ownership over a defined slice of hiring.

What you'll do:

  • Manage full-cycle recruiting for Admissions and Student Services openings, from requisition to handoff for final-round interviews
  • Source candidates through Lever, LinkedIn, job boards, and university/community partnerships — especially candidates with backgrounds in higher ed, call-center/inside-sales, or student-facing coaching roles
  • Screen resumes and conduct phone/video interviews against role-specific criteria set by hiring managers
  • Keep Lever pipelines current — accurate stage tracking, notes, and candidate status so hiring managers and People Ops always know where things stand
  • Draft and send candidate communications (screen invites, rejections, status updates) using PKH's existing templates and tone
  • Partner with hiring managers (e.g., Admissions Services Manager, Student Success leadership) on role requirements and pipeline check-ins
  • Flag pipeline health issues early — slow-moving reqs, thin applicant pools, or diversity/representation gaps — to People Ops
  • Support light employer-branding work: keeping job descriptions current, posting to relevant boards, monitoring applicant experience

What you bring:

  • 2+ years of recruiting or sourcing experience; agency, in-house, or high-volume hiring experience all welcome
  • Comfort working in an ATS (Lever experience a plus, not required)
  • Experience recruiting for admissions, enrollment, call-center, sales, or coaching/advising roles is a strong plus — you understand what makes someone succeed in a high-touch, metrics-driven, relationship-based role
  • Strong written communication — able to write candidate emails that sound like a person, not a form letter
  • Comfortable managing multiple open reqs and shifting priorities without a lot of oversight
  • Familiarity with the nonprofit/higher-ed OPM space is a plus but not required
  • Exercise independent judgment, concentrate, think, communicate, interact with others, manage multiple tasks, and cope with stressful situations and deadlines.
  • Ability to perform sedentary physical activity of an administrative nature

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
