Stantec is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Sustainability Intern to join our Sustainability team. This role is ideal for undergraduate students in their final year or graduate students interested in sustainable design, building performance, and green building certifications.
As a Sustainability Intern, you will support project teams in delivering high-performance, healthy, and resilient buildings. You will gain hands-on experience working alongside architects, engineers, and sustainability specialists, contributing to projects pursuing certifications such as LEED and other rating systems.
Our Sustainability practice acts as a collaborative bridge between architecture and engineering, helping project teams integrate sustainability strategies, track performance, and deliver measurable outcomes aligned with Stantec’s commitment to design excellence and environmental stewardship.
QualificationsResponsibilities
As a Sustainability Intern, you will work under the guidance of senior staff to support project and team initiatives, including:
- Conduct sustainability research and compile data to support project goals
- Assist with documentation and coordination for green building certifications (e.g., LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Green Globes)
- Support building performance and sustainability analyses at an introductory level
- Assist in reviewing project designs for alignment with sustainability strategies and requirements
- Help track project sustainability metrics and organize documentation
- Contribute to preparation of presentations, reports, and award submissions
- Provide general support during construction administration and coordination efforts
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who are eager to learn and contribute in a collaborative environment:
- Enrolled or recently graduated with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture, engineering, environmental science, or a related field
- Strong interest in sustainability, high-performance buildings, and climate-responsive design
- Previous internship experience is preferred but not required
- Familiarity with sustainability frameworks (e.g., LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Green Globes) is a plus
- Exposure to building performance tools (e.g., Insight, Ladybug, IES, or similar) is helpful but not required
- Basic proficiency in design or modeling tools such as Revit and/or Rhino is preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with attention to detail and a willingness to learn
