A Day in the LifeMedtronic is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Sustainability for EurAsia region to lead our sustainability initiatives in the region. Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer, this role will, preferably, be based in The Netherlands and will involve significant engagement with regulatory bodies, customers, commercial, and financial teams and their leaders. The Director will provide leadership to current team members based in the EU and UK, ensuring alignment with Medtronic's global sustainability strategy and enterprise-level goals. The role will involve travel, as needed and authorized, within Europe and to other locations covered by Medtronic’s EurAsia region, and for business-critical office meetings in the United States.
Key Responsibilities:
•Leadership and Strategy: Lead and manage sustainability initiatives across the EU and UK, ensuring alignment with Medtronic's global sustainability strategy and global sustainability policy. Support the corporate sustainability team in strategic direction and leadership in the EU region. Engage in internal and external forums, as asked by the CSO, to advance Medtronic’s sustainability position and business interests.
•Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with sustainability-related regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with sustainability-related regulations and standards. Represent Medtronic in discussions with regulatory agencies and industry groups. Work closely with customers, trade associations, and industry groups/collaboratives, and other key stakeholders to promote Medtronic's sustainability initiatives and communicate achievements. Develop and maintain effective communication, build and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders to drive progress toward established goals.
• Commercial and Financial Collaboration: Collaborate with commercial and financial teams to integrate sustainability into commercial business strategy and commercial operating activities. Ensure that sustainability initiatives support Medtronic's commercial and financial interests.
• Team Leadership: Provide leadership and support to current team members based in the EU and UKI region primarily, and then as needed in Middle East-AsiaPac region covered by Medtronic EurAsia. Be recognized as a ‘playing captain’, driving projects forward individually and collectively through exemplary behavior and results. Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
• Project Proposals & Management: Recommend business-relevant sustainability projects, develop proposals and get them funded through EurAsia business and functional leadership, as well as through other funding agencies (i.e. EU govt). Oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of sustainability projects. Ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards
• Reporting and Communication: Develop and deliver regular reports on sustainability performance to senior management. Communicate sustainability achievements and challenges to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
• Sector/Industry Experience: Proven experience in the healthcare sector and/or MedTech industry, or otherwise highly regulated adjacent sector or industry (e.g. BioTech, Pharma, Life Sciences, Chemicals) highly regulated industries, with a clear understanding of sector-specific sustainability challenges and opportunities.
• Sustainability Expertise: Extensive experience managing diverse sustainability initiatives in the EU. Knowledge of sustainability regulations, standards, and best practices in the broader EurAsia region (including Australia).
• Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
• Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively engage with regulatory bodies, customers, and internal teams . Apart from English, fluency in one or more prominent European languages is an advantage.
• Project Management: Strong project management skills, with a track record of successfully delivering complex sustainability projects .
• Educational Background: A degree in sustainability, environmental science, business, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in sustainability are a plus.
