2026 Summer Day Camp Inclusion & Behavior Specialist: 

POSTION SUMMARY:  

The Day Camp Inclusion and Behavior Specialist will provide support to any campers who require additional attention at camp. They will support leadership team members and group staff with behavioral management at camp, both with pre-season and in-season training. The Day Camp Inclusion and Behavior Specialist will provide a safe and nurturing environment for campers and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCIONS: 

  1. Help to develop and maintain an inventory of supplies needed for the inclusivity of all special needs and special population campers/staff.
  2. Meet with the Leadership team as needed to discuss current camper and staff needs.
  3. Maintain notes of all issues and success stories and submit accident/incident reports to the Camp Directors as needed.
  4. Inform the Camp Director, Assistant Director, and Leadership team of any camper or staff problems, issues, or concerns.
  5. Correct and document, as necessary, situations that endanger the emotional or physical safety of any person.
  6. Work with Unit Directors and group counselors to address any challenging/difficult situations that are ongoing in units.
  7. Help the medical team by being a presence and supporting any issues encountered by the camper and staff populations.
  1. Work with the Camp Leadership team to determine when individuals may need treatment away from camp and/or may need to leave camp. 
  2. Communicate concerns and success stories with parents and families.
  3. Actively participate in and lead portions of Staff Training and meetings.
  4. Lead both formal and informal in-season training for staff to help them improve their inclusivity skills.
  5. Follow established state laws, ACA regulations, and camp policies regarding health care.
  6. Demonstrate and teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to all campers and staff.
  7. Follow all camp rules, regulations and policies and enforce them among peers.
  8. Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the general public at all times.
  9. Able to visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities.
  10. Capable to respond appropriately to emergencies and situations requiring first aid and/or CPR.
  11. Submit all required paperwork on time.
  12. Willingness to go above and beyond your written job description.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. A Special Education Degree, experience as a School Para-Professional or Behavior Specialist, 2+years experience working with special needs and/or special populations (LGBTQIA+),and/or at least 2 years of college with a focus on special education or social work focused on special populations, and/or related experience
  2. Current First Aid and Adult and Child, AED certifications
  3. At least21years old with a valid driver’s license
  4. Desire and ability to work in a camp setting 
  5. At least 2 years of experience with special needs or special populations
  6. Ability to assist with camp wide inclusivity initiatives and implement the camp inclusivity plan
  7. Good role model, high integrity, and adaptable
  8. Ability to assess and implement risk management procedures as needed
  9. Ability to understand and follow directions 
  10. Positive attitude and ability to build a cohesive team
  11. Successfully pass the Massachusetts mandated CORI and SORI check.
  12. Sound judgment, integrity, problem solving skills and risk management.
  13. Human relation skills with general public and staff.
  14. Physical assessment skills with childrenages7 – 18years old.
  15. Field experience preferred.
  16. Committing to support and further our anti-racist work as an organization.  Learning about our initiatives and the continuous work and being able to vocalize with members if needed. 
  17. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
