About the Team
Our organization, Rotorcraft Turboshaft & Turboprop Engineering (RTPE), focuses on Systems & Design Engineering for CT7, T700, T408, T64, and T58 engine families, supporting the helicopter business across commercial and military platforms worldwide, including, but not limited to, Black Hawk, CH-53E/K, Apache, CN-235, and Marine One. These programs provide critical products, services, and technical support for essential missions, such as defense, firefighting, emergency relief, search & rescue and more. RTPE offers a dynamic environment with a mix of production, manufacturing, and new product introduction, making it an exciting place to work on legacy and advanced helicopter engines.
About the Position
This role is for a front-line leader in the RTPE T408/T64 Design Engineering organization reporting to the Design Engineering Section Leader. In this role, the Sub-Section Manager (SSM) will be responsible for building and leading a team of engineers with various levels of experience to own all engineering tasks associated with the on-going support of hot section hardware (combustion and turbine modules). This includes New Product Introductions (NPI), Component Improvement Programs (CIP), manufacturing & assembly support activities and identifying & leading strategic engineering initiatives.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Team Management: Lead a diverse team of professional engineers, including senior and lead professionals, and manage external services. Ensure effective collaboration, mentoring, and performance management. Promote a culture of transparency, candor, proactive planning, and execution.

  • Strategic Influence and Collaborative Strategy: Shape strategy, control resources, and formulate policies within your area of responsibility. Work with peer managers to develop and implement strategies aimed at improving the health and performance of the product line team. Influence decision-making processes with a deep understanding of organizational goals.

  • Industry Best Practices and Trends: Stay updated with industry trends and recommend best practices to enhance products, processes, or services. Continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.

  • Decision Making and Execution: Exercise high-level judgment to make decisions, solve complex problems, and propose innovative solutions. Assess the quality of information, ask relevant questions, offer solutions, and provide well-constructed recommendations. Utilize robust daily management and action planning to ensure program deliverables and milestones are met.

  • Leadership and Communication: Lead functional teams or projects, communicate complex concepts effectively, influence others, and foster relationships based on trust and respect.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering from an accredited university or college

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant engineering role.

  • Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a relevant engineering role.

  • Experience leading teams including direct reports inside the US.

  • Experience in manufacturing and design of Hot Section hardware.

  • Experience leading remote employees and influencing indirect reports.

  • Demonstrated collaboration across functions and organizations.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.

  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
