About Us
Temporal is an open source programming model that can simplify code, make applications more reliable, and help developers focus on the important things like delivering features faster. We are on a mission to be the reliable foundation of every developer’s toolbox, and are building the team that will make that happen.

Our values guide us —they are present in how we show up, make decisions, and work together to make an impact. We’re curious, driven, collaborative, genuine and humble.

Temporal is growing and we are looking for those who share our values, challenge 'standard' thinking, and want to influence our future. If you have a passion for improving the developer experience, building world-class open-source software and communities, and want to be a part of our amazing team, we'd love to hear from you!

Summary
As the Staff Product Manager for the Workflow Platform, you will own the vision and roadmap for how developers build and run workflows—spanning long-running processes, messaging, synchronous interactions, and platform-level reliability.

You’ll define the primitives, APIs, and developer experience that make Temporal the best platform for everything from AI agents to low-latency apps to large-scale automation.

What You’ll Own

  • Long-running & Entity Workflows - Define how developers build durable, stateful, human-in-the-loop workflows. Make Temporal the easiest and most robust platform for agents, campaigns, approvals, and multi-step business processes.
  • Messaging & Interactivity - Own signals, updates, and queries. Ensure developers can build interactive, event-driven systems with predictable semantics and great UX.
  • Low-latency, Synchronous Actions - Partner with engineering to deliver fast, responsive workflows that support real-time user interactions without compromising durability.
  • Interoperability & Composability - Drive coherence across Temporal’s primitives so workflows, activities, and messaging feel like parts of one operating system for distributed apps.
  • Reliability as a Core Experience - Champion “workflows don’t fail.” Shape retry behavior, recovery tools, changelists, and operational controls that make durable execution intuitive.
  • Cost & Efficiency - Steer strategy for scalable, predictable workload economics, including batching, resource usage, and scheduling efficiency.
  • Global Scheduling & Batch - Define Temporal’s scheduling model for orchestrating millions of workflows and large collections at scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Set product vision and roadmap for Temporal’s core workflow platform
  • Translate customer needs into clear APIs, semantics, and developer experiences
  • Work closely with engineering on performance, reliability, and cost tradeoffs
  • Lead discovery with developers building agents, workflow-driven systems, and interactive apps
  • Drive alignment across SDK, cloud, and runtime teams
  • Represent the product to customers and internal stakeholders

What Success Looks Like

  • Developers immediately understand when and how to use workflows, signals, updates, and synchronous operations
  • Temporal becomes the default platform for long-running, interactive, and durable applications
  • Workflows feel resilient, predictable, and easy to reason about
  • The platform scales efficiently with strong cost controls and a clear scheduling model
Compensation
  • The estimated pay range for this role is $185,000 - $260,000.
  • Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Temporal's equity plan.
Compensation ranges reflect salary and commission compensation (when applicable) across several geographic markets. Employment offers carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, knowledge, expertise, skillset, market location, and job level assessed during the interview process.

Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
