Who We Are

Verily is a subsidiary of Alphabet that is using a data-driven approach to change the way people manage their health and the way healthcare is delivered. Launched from Google X in 2015, our purpose is to bring the promise of precision health to everyone, every day. We are focused on generating and activating data from a variety of sources, including clinical, social, behavioral and the real world, to arrive at the best solutions for a person based on a comprehensive view of the evidence. Our unique expertise and capabilities in technology, data science and healthcare enable the entire healthcare ecosystem to drive better health outcomes.

Description

In this highly technical Staff Product Manager role, you will lead the evolution of the core infrastructure layer of Verily’s Precision Health Platform. You will own the roadmap for the "Golden Path" for first and third party developers to build healthcare applications on our stack.  You will define how hundreds of engineers deploy, manage, and scale compliant healthcare workloads.  This is a role for a PM who will thrive working with Staff Engineers on architectural trade-offs, state management, and drift detection. You will transform "platform configuration" from a manual bottleneck into a self-service, automated engine that powers the world’s most sensitive health data platform.

Responsibilities
  • Establish a Configuration-as-Code Foundation: Drive the product strategy for a unified, machine-readable configuration layer (similar to Terraform and HashiCorp) that serves as the single source of truth for all system states.

  • Engineer Developer Velocity: Treat our internal engineering teams as your primary customers. Obsess over reducing "time-to-first-deploy" and eliminating manual infrastructure toil through elegant platform abstractions.

  • Architect System Tooling: Partner with Cloud Engineering to build a robust development environment where technical users can create solution-agnostic configurations that are easily versioned, tested, and deployed.

  • Bridge the Technical Gap: While you will spend much of your time in the technical weeds, you will also architect the visual orchestration layers and AI-assisted interfaces that allow non-technical domain experts to verify and safely modify configurations without needing to read raw JSON.

  • Influence the "Golden Path": Define the standards for how Verily services interact with our platform, ensuring that security, compliance, and scalability are baked into the configuration layer by default.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • The "Former Engineer" Pedigree: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, with 4+ years of professional experience as a Software, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineer prior to moving into Product Management.

  • Platform Mastery: 8+ years of product management experience, specifically focused on internal developer platforms, infrastructure, or complex enterprise SaaS backends.

  • IaC Native: Deep, hands-on familiarity with infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform, Vault, Consul). You should be able to discuss the nuances of state files, provider logic, and infrastructure lifecycle management.

  • Architectural Credibility: Proven ability to lead technical discussions with Staff and Principal engineers, earning respect through technical depth and the ability to simplify complex systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Scale & Regulation: Experience building platform tools in highly regulated environments (HIPAA, HITRUST, or Fintech) where "compliance-as-code" is a requirement, not a luxury.

  • Kubernetes Ecosystem: Experience with K8s, Helm, and cloud-native networking/security models in GCP or AWS.

  • AI-Driven Operations: Experience or a strong vision for how LLMs and agentic workflows can simplify infrastructure management and configuration discovery.

  • The "Product-Engineer" Mindset: A track record of treating internal tools with the same UX rigor and customer empathy usually reserved for consumer-facing apps.
