Staff Backend Engineer – Build the Telecom Infrastructure for NextGen

OXIO is the world’s first telecom-as-a-service (TaaS) platform. We are democratizing telecom and making it easily accessible for brands and enterprises to fully own and operate proprietary mobile networks designed to support their own customers needs. Our TaaS solution combines multiple existing networks into one single platform that can be seamlessly managed in the cloud as a modern SaaS offering. And it gets better - with full network access comes unparalleled business intelligence and insights to help enterprises better understand customer and machine (M2M) behavior. With a continuous focus on innovation, any company can build a powerful telecom presence with OXIO, and in addition help them glean unique customer insights like never before.

Job Description:

Mobile connectivity is a scarce resource for many people [1], and its affordability varies significantly across countries. For example, the cost of 500 MB of connectivity requires just 30 minutes of work for an American but 40 hours for a Mexican. Additionally, when traveling, people must either pay high roaming fees or deal with the hassle of navigating local carriers.

The telecom space needs a transformation. Our proposition is a unified exchange where actors such as carriers, Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs), IoT providers, phone manufacturers, and others can trade connectivity. This platform aims to drive down costs and enable new experiences for users and businesses alike.

We’re seeking a seasoned Tech Lead with strong hands-on experience to help us develop our flagship BrandVNO platform. In this critical role, you will spearhead the expansion of our SDK, empowering customers to create innovative telecom experiences directly within their mobile applications.

Key Qualifications:
  • A college or university degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • 10+ years in software development, with expertise in back-end systems.

  • Hands-on experience in software design, architecture, and data modeling for large-scale systems.

  • Go (must have), Java, Kotlin, C++, Node.js.

  • AWS, GCP, or MS Azure.

  • Strong experience with REST and/or GraphQL.

  • Experience with SQL, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, or similar systems.

  • Well versed with unit testing and test frameworks.

  • Proficiency with Linux environments and GIT.

  • Knowledge of TMForum and 3GPP standards is a plus

  • Expertise in designing scalable, large-scale systems with a focus on telecom applications.

  • Proficient with AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude) to accelerate implementation, testing, and refactoring while upholding accountability, security and code quality.

  • Ability to engage with stakeholders, translate requirements into design/architecture, and execute independently.

  • Strong functional knowledge of telecom, architecture expertise, and the ability to write and implement high-quality code.

Our stack:

  • Microservices in Go programming language

  • Protobuf and gRPC for internal microservice interactions, REST when public-facing

  • Docker for our microservices deployments

  • Deployed on AWS for all things infra and managed services

  • Data Warehousing with Airflow & Superset

  • Multiple kinds of databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MongoDB

  • Android and iOS Apps (Java and Swift)

  • Angular and React websites

What We Offer:
  • Competitive salary and stock option incentive program

  • Company paid healthcare

  • Flexible work arrangements

  • Company sponsored team-lunches and company retreats

  • International organization that enables you to work across boundaries, travel to different locations, and enjoy the dynamics of a rapidly growing startup
