We're seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our lean team. This role will manage day-to-day accounting operations in collaboration with our Controller and fractional CFO. The ideal candidate embodies our values and will bring technical expertise and a collaborative spirit to help maintain our financial health as we scale.
Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Accounting
- Maintain accurate general ledger and chart of accounts
- Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations
- Process accounts payable and receivable transactions
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes
- Support budget preparation and variance analysis
- Handle employee payroll and be a liaison with PEO
Revenue Recognition & Analysis
- Manage revenue recognition for diverse income streams including advertising and content production (video, audio, book publishing)
- Track and analyze key financial metrics for all business units
- Assist with contract review for revenue implications
Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare supporting schedules for month-end including prepaids and accrued expenses
- Prepare high-volume annual 1099s and 1042s
- Assist with annual audit and tax preparation
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant accounting standards
- Maintain documentation for internal and external reporting requirements
- Support quarterly board reporting and investor relations
Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain and optimize accounting software and financial systems
- Develop and document accounting procedures and controls
- Support implementation of new financial tools and processes
- Assist with month-end and year-end efficiency improvements
- Assist in improving company workflow processes for operational efficiencies
Required:
- 3-5 years of corporate finance experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and financial reporting software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience with multi-location or multi-revenue stream businesses preferred
