Staff Accountant

EverQuote is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join its Accounting team. The Staff Accountant will play a highly visible and crucial role in the company's accounting operations. This position primarily focuses on supporting the growing business through various general ledger activities and by optimizing key accounting practices. We are seeking candidates with an accounting degree and prior experience in a fast-paced, high-growth technology environment.

This is a hybrid role requiring you to be in our Cambridge, MA HQ several days a week.

What You’ll Do:

• Perform balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly and quarterly basis
• Reconcile cash receipts and research any discrepancies, working with the business as needed
• Monitor the AR aging reports and execute the weekly AR meetings, highlighting and reporting any payments risks to the Controller and key company personnel  
• Work with customers to follow up on outstanding balances, payment discrepancies, or billing inquiries
• Responsible for monthly and quarterly general ledger close on a timely basis
• Documenting processes for all tasks, including improving processes through automation where available
• Serve as the backup for payroll processing with the potential to transition into a primary payroll role, including full responsibility for end-to-end payroll operations in the future
• Provide support for the annual audit, quarterly SEC filings, and ad hoc projects

Who you are:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, CPA or CPA eligible preferred but not required
• Recent college graduate to 1+ year of public or industry-specific accounting experience
• Basic understanding of US GAAP 
• Self-motivated with a high sense of professional ethics and integrity
• Highly organized with ability to handle multiple tasks and projects efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
• Team player with ability to effectively and efficiently work cross-functionally across multiple departments
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Experience with large data sets and advance knowledge of Microsoft excel, including using data sets in more powerful tools
• Experience with NetSuite preferred, but not required
