The Senior Project Manager will have a proven track record of independently managing high-stakes, complex programs across the full delivery lifecycle of programs which may include an Agile Release Train (Product), Software Professional Services (SPS/Hybrid), or Corporate Programs, and will be expected to shape delivery strategy, define ways of working and drive consistent execution standards across the team. Compensation range: $125,000 - $140,000

Other compensation: Performance bonus eligible

The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, licensure, certifications, related experience and other related factors.

What you will be doing:

  • Independently lead end-to-end delivery of complex, high-priority programs and concurrent projects of varying scope and duration, defining delivery strategies, priorities, governance structures, and execution plans to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, budgets, forecasts, and RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, and Dependencies) frameworks, proactively addressing risks, financial variances, competing priorities, and delivery challenges.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in project management methodologies, driving the adoption and continuous improvement of SAFe, Lean-Agile, PMI, and other relevant practices to enhance delivery efficiency, quality, and consistency.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, clients, and cross-functional teams, providing executive-level reporting, managing expectations, resolving competing priorities, and influencing decisions without direct authority.
  • Lead change management efforts and continuous improvement initiatives, identifying systemic challenges, implementing process enhancements, and contributing to GPMO standards, governance, documentation, and best practices.
  • Oversee delivery coordination across internal, external, and geographically distributed teams, ensuring alignment, accountability, effective communication, and consistent execution throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support pre-sales and commercial delivery activities, where applicable, including statements of work (SOWs), RFI/RFP responses, project scoping, contract alignment, and financial oversight.
  • Mentor and coach junior project management professionals, contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and professional development, and actively participate in GPMO improvement initiatives and knowledge-sharing activities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Sciences, Software Engineering, Business, or a related field required; master’s degree or advanced certification preferred.
  • 6–9+ years of progressive project management experience, including independently leading complex, high-priority programs and managing multiple concurrent initiatives through the full project lifecycle.
  • Lean-Agile certification required (e.g., CSM, PSM, SAFe Practitioner, PMI-ACP); traditional project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects across the software development lifecycle, with exposure to multiple delivery environments, including product development, professional services, or corporate program management, strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage program budgets, financial forecasts, commercial commitments, and contractual requirements; experience supporting pre-sales activities, including SOW development, RFP responses, and project scoping, preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with enterprise project management and collaboration tools, including Jira, Smartsheet, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and retrospective tools; software development or technical background preferred.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
