Administer and support enterprise Oracle databases across on-premises and cloud environments. Responsibilities include installation, configuration, monitoring, performance tuning, patching, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, security, automation, incident response, troubleshooting, documentation, and root cause analysis. The role provides technical leadership and collaborates with infrastructure, application, cybersecurity, and other technical teams, including participation in after-hours maintenance activities.
Enterprise Horizon Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Senior Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to provide database administration, maintenance, troubleshooting, development support, and operational support for a federal customer's enterprise database environment. This role is 100% remote, working hours are based on Eastern Time. The Senior Oracle DBA will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting Oracle database technologies in both on-premises and cloud environments.
This position requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant database experience and strong hands-on expertise with Oracle database administration, Oracle Grid, Oracle RMAN, PL/SQL, high availability, disaster recovery, database monitoring, performance tuning, patching, and troubleshooting. This role is contingent upon contract award.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise Oracle database environments.
- Create, configure, and manage standalone Oracle databases.
- Support Oracle Grid environments and associated high-availability technologies.
- Manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes using Oracle RMAN.
- Perform database installations, upgrades, maintenance, and software patching.
- Maintain and support High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) capabilities.
- Diagnose and triage database, server, application integration, and performance issues.
- Perform advanced database and SQL performance tuning, including optimizer and storage-level troubleshooting.
- Develop and maintain database scripts and automation, including PL/SQL.
- Develop and maintain database backup, restore, recovery, and point-in-time recovery strategies.
- Establish and maintain database configuration, performance, security, and operational standards.
- Monitor database health, capacity, and performance and proactively identify potential issues.
- Support database monitoring and alerting activities using enterprise monitoring tools.
- Respond to incidents, service requests, and Requests for Change (RFCs).
- Document troubleshooting, maintenance, configuration changes, and support activities.
- Provide technical leadership during complex incidents and root cause analysis.
- Work independently and collaboratively with application, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and other technical teams.
- Communicate technical information effectively to technical staff, management, and business stakeholders.
- Participate in scheduled after-hours maintenance activities, including patching, server reboots, and other database/server support.
- Contribute to required weekly activity and accomplishment reports.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in database administration and related database disciplines.
- Advanced Oracle database administration experience.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Oracle Database
- Oracle Grid
- Oracle RMAN
- PL/SQL
- Backup and recovery
- Database performance tuning
- Database patching and maintenance
- High Availability and Disaster Recovery
- Database monitoring and alerting
- Security and auditing
- Incident troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Experience administering databases in enterprise production environments.
- Ability to work independently and within cross-functional technical teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or previous Oracle professional certification.
- Experience supporting federal government IT environments.
- Experience with OCI or other cloud-hosted database environments.
- Experience with ServiceNow.
- Experience with SolarWinds and/or Idera.
- Exposure to SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, and MS Access.
