Our marketing team is charged with an important task – sharing our Staples story. We use customer data and analytics to help us understand and improve our customers’ experiences, drive customer retention and encourage brand loyalty. Our team is diverse, with skillsets and responsibilities ranging from graphic design, content creation and performance marketing to internal communications and loyalty & rewards programs. We work together to provide expertise and guidance, so that the Staples brand is well represented in all areas. 

We are seeking a Senior Manager of Public Relations to help lead media relations and storytelling for Staples. This role will partner closely with internal stakeholders and our PR agency to develop proactive, perception-shifting communications programs that elevate Staples’ brand and connect the company to timely cultural and business conversations.

The Senior Manager will play a key role in shaping story angles, managing day-to-day media engagement, and keeping PR programs on track from planning through execution, while also supporting issues and crisis communications as needed. This role requires a strong writer, a proactive media strategist, and a collaborative partner who can translate business initiatives into compelling narratives.

Social listening and reporting experience is a plus to support coordination with broader communications and marketing programs.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead media relations and storytelling initiatives that elevate Staples’ brand and position it within key cultural and business conversations.
  • Develop proactive communications strategies and compelling narratives aligned with business priorities.
  • Manage day-to-day media engagement including pitching, media list development, interview coordination, and press release distribution.
  • Draft high-impact communications materials including press releases, media pitches, executive talking points, and briefing materials.
  • Partner cross-functionally with marketing, brand, and business teams to align PR strategies with enterprise initiatives.
  • Monitor media trends and identify timely opportunities to position Staples in relevant conversations.
  • Oversee PR programs from planning through execution, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
  • Support executive thought leadership efforts and high-visibility communications moments.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a strong portfolio of press and executive communications.
  • Strong media instincts and situational judgment.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and business needs.
  • Proven experience securing media coverage across business, retail, or industry outlets.
  • Familiarity with Business Wire. Strong organizational skills with experience managing multiple deadlines.

What’s needed: Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Business, or related work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in public relations, media relations, or corporate communications.
  • 3+ years of experience leading PR programs, managing agencies, or overseeing PR functions.
  • Experience working with PR agencies and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience in retail, B2B, or enterprise brands.
  • Social media literacy and experience working with digital teams.
  • Experience supporting executive thought leadership programs.
  • Familiarity with PR measurement tools such as Cision, Muck Rack, or Meltwater.
  • Experience analyzing cultural or social trends to inform PR strategy.
