Team Summary

The HiTouch Division at Staples focuses on delivering best-in-class digital commerce and marketplace solutions. Our Marketplace team drives revenue growth, conversion improvement, and profitability through strategic management of key third-party channels, including Amazon, Walmart, and similar platforms. We partner across Merchandising, Marketing, Finance, Product, and Supply Chain to achieve business goals and deliver exceptional customer experiences.

Role Summary

The Senior Manager, Marketplace (Digital Commerce & Pricing) is responsible for owning and optimizing performance across major marketplace channels. This strategic and hands-on leader manages all aspects of marketplace operations, including listings, content, advertising, promotions, and pricing decisions. Operating with significant autonomy, the Senior Manager leverages data-driven insights to influence strategy, optimize performance, and deliver measurable business results. This position reports to the Director and acts as a subject matter expert for marketplace operations, pricing strategy, and digital commerce trends.

What you’ll be doing

  • Own and optimize performance across third-party marketplace channels (Amazon, Walmart, etc.), focusing on revenue, conversion, profitability, and customer experience.
  • Develop and execute marketplace strategies across assortment, pricing, content, and promotional activities.
  • Lead pricing and promotional strategies to maintain competitiveness and protect margin.
  • Monitor and respond to competitive dynamics, assortment gaps, pricing trends, Buy Box performance, and algorithm changes.
  • Analyze marketplace data (traffic, conversion, pricing, advertising, sales) to identify risks and growth opportunities.
  • Partner with Marketing to optimize sponsored advertising performance and ROAS.
  • Collaborate with Product, Merchandising, and Supply Chain teams for optimal assortment, inventory, and fulfillment performance.
  • Work with Marketing and Finance to support P&L management and business planning.
  • Establish and track KPIs and continuously optimize performance.
  • Drive adoption of best practices and tools for pricing and performance tracking.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements in marketplace execution, workflows, and analytics.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on marketplace operations and digital commerce trends.
  • May lead or mentor analysts or cross-functional project teams supporting marketplace initiatives.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and subject matter expertise to less experienced team members.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives and influence without direct authority across matrixed teams.
  • Foster collaboration and alignment across Marketing, Merchandising, Finance, and Operations stakeholders.
  • This role has no direct reports.
  • Directly impacts revenue growth, margin performance, and competitive positioning across marketplace channels.
  • Influences short- and mid-term business results through pricing strategy, promotional execution, and digital merchandising effectiveness.
  • Contributes to enterprise digital commerce growth and customer acquisition/retention strategies.
  • Drives improvements in profitability, operational efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Acts as a strategic advisor on marketplace growth, pricing strategy, and digital commerce trends.

What’s needed – Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in eCommerce, marketplace operations, or digital commerce roles.
  • 3+ years of direct experience managing marketplace channels (Amazon, Walmart, or similar platforms).
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and improving conversion rates within digital commerce environments.
  • Experience managing pricing, promotions, or competitive positioning in an online marketplace.
  • Strong analytical skills with hands-on experience using data tools (Excel, SQL, BI platforms).
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Marketing, Merchandising, Finance, and Operations teams.

What’s needed – Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing channel-level P&L or key business metrics (revenue, margin, ROAS).
  • Exposure to pricing strategy, promotions, or competitive pricing in a marketplace environment (2–3 years preferred).
  • Background in retail, consumer goods, marketplaces, or high-SKU environments.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar analytics platforms.
  • Experience operating in cross-functional, matrixed organizations.

The salary range represents the expected compensation for this role at the time of posting. The specific base pay may be influenced by a variety of factors to include the candidate's experience, skill set, education, geography, business considerations, and internal equity. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for bonuses, or other forms of variable compensation.
