About the Job:

The Senior Manager, Global Logistics is a strategic, operationally driven leader responsible for the end-to-end tracking, execution, and continuous optimization of domestic and international shipments of patient specimens and critical materials in support of FMI’s diagnostic testing network. This role owns logistics performance (speed, quality, cost, compliance), leads carrier/3PL strategy, and partners cross-functionally with Laboratory Operations, Client Services, Quality, Regulatory, Procurement, and Finance to ensure specimens and materials move reliably, compliantly, and with the integrity required for patient-impacting testing.

The Senior Manager will strengthen and scale FMI’s logistics capability through standardization, SOP governance, data/analytics, and risk management, ensuring readiness for audits and resilience to disruption while enabling growth and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute FMI’s global logistics strategy for patient samples and materials, aligning service levels, cost-to-serve, and scalability with business objectives.
  • Lead lane strategy across domestic and international networks (air/ground/courier), including escalation pathways, cutoffs, handoffs, and exception management to protect turnaround time and specimen integrity.
  • Drive network optimization initiatives (e.g., carrier rationalization, consolidation, route/lane redesign, packaging standardization) to improve on-time performance and reduce delays/costs.
  • Own day-to-day performance management of logistics execution, including real-time tracking/visibility, exception handling, and recovery actions for delayed or at-risk shipments.
  • Establish and operate a performance cadence (daily/weekly/monthly) using KPIs such as on-time delivery, transit time, cost per shipment, exception rate, claims, and delivery success.
  • Ensure shipments and processes meet applicable Good Distribution Practice (GDP) expectations—maintaining product/specimen integrity through controlled transportation, traceability, and effective recall/issue response processes.
  • Own logistics-related SOP governance (creation, revision, training, and controlled documentation) to ensure consistent execution across regions and partners.
  • Oversee compliance for shipping regulated materials (as applicable), including alignment to IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) requirements and packaging instructions for biological substances (e.g., UN3373 Category B).
  • Lead carrier and 3PL management including performance reviews, scorecards, corrective actions, and continuous improvement plans.
  • Support RFPs/renewals, negotiate service and pricing where appropriate, and drive measurable improvements in cost, service, and reliability.
  • Build resilient partner coverage across critical lanes and geographies, ensuring redundancy and documented contingency plans for disruptions.
  • Lead, coach, and develop logistics team members (directly and/or through influence), setting clear goals, establishing operating rhythms, and building a culture of accountability and service excellence.
  • Serve as a senior point of contact for logistics escalations and cross-functional alignment, communicating risks, tradeoffs, and mitigation plans clearly to stakeholders.
  • Comply with FMI's attendance policies

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 6+ years progressive experience in global logistics/supply chain
  • 2+ years of management experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing international and domestic transportation networks and partner performance (carriers, freight forwarders, 3PLs).
  • Working knowledge of GDP/GxP principles and documentation controls required for regulated distribution and audit readiness.
  • Strong analytical and continuous improvement capability; proven record using KPIs to improve on-time delivery, transit time, exception rates, and cost.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence across functions and levels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MBA, Supply Chain/Logistics, Operations) preferred.
  • Experience shipping biological substances / diagnostic specimens including familiarity with UN3373 requirements and IATA DGR-aligned shipping practices (as applicable to role scope).
  • Logistics experience in life sciences, diagnostics, pharma, biotech, clinical logistics strongly preferred.
  • Experience in global trade compliance partnership (import/export processes, customs broker management, and minimizing clearance delays).
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional logistics transformations (network optimization, carrier RFPs, systems implementations).
  • Strong understanding of Global Logistics Regulations.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of patient safety and data privacy regulations and guidelines
  • Commitment to reflect FMI’s values: Integrity, Courage, and Passion
