The Enterprise Technology Communications lead is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing and executing Enterprise Technology communication strategies that align with the organization's mission. This role focuses on promoting the Chief Information Officer’s /ET Strategy agenda, emphasizing technology-driven innovations, digital transformation, and new-age solutions. This role requires a unique blend of technical acumen and communications expertise to translate complex technology concepts into compelling narratives for diverse audiences.  This leader will report into the office of the CIO. 

This role is eligible for our Flex persona; candidates local to our Boston, MA office are preferred.

Strategic Communications:

  • Define and implement a comprehensive communications strategy and plan that promotes technology initiatives including AI, data analytics, cybersecurity, and digital health tools, ensuring alignment with BCBSMA's strategic goals.
  • Manage the creation of innovative, new age content (e.g., multimedia, interactive digital experiences) to highlight BCBSMA's tech advancements and their impact on healthcare accessibility and member experience.
  • Understanding new technology capabilities including AI and the role they play in Enterprise Technology and Communications.
  • Ensure Enterprise Technology's engagement in digital transformation, innovation, and business enablement is communicated effectively across the enterprise.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of communications strategies, metrics, and feedback, by making recommendations for continuous improvement and ensuring high engagement and alignment with evolving industry trends in healthcare and technology.

Internal Communications & Change Management:

  • Develop and manage internal communication channels to ensure employees are informed and engaged with organizational news, events, and objectives. This may include newsletters, internal memos, and company-wide meetings.
  • Manage crisis communications and reputation management, providing strategic guidance during technology-related incidents or organizational changes.
  • Create clear and engaging messaging for IT initiatives such as system upgrades, cybersecurity, cloud migrations, and digital workplace tools.
  • Support change management efforts with communication plans that drive awareness, adoption, and user engagement.
  • Partner with Corporate Communications and business units to ensure alignment of IT communications with enterprise-wide employee communications.

Content Creation and Story Telling:

  • Craft compelling story narratives around technology innovations, achievements, and strategic direction.
  • Manage the creation and distribution of a wide range of content, including white papers, internal articles, blog posts, social media content, and digital publications.
  • Draft presentations, town hall content, and messaging for the CIO and IT leaders.
  • Manage Industry relations and analyst engagements, including speaking opportunities at major technology conferences and primary contact for technology industry analysts.
  • Develop stakeholder communication strategies to build trust, transparency, and credibility for IT.
  • Serve as advisor to the Enterprise Technology leadership team on messaging, executive communications, and stakeholder engagement.

Team Management:

  • Manage a team of communications professionals fostering a collaborative, inclusive culture that encourages creative problem-solving and professional growth.
  • Provide strong leadership to the various team members through mentoring, career development, interpersonal skills, teamwork, and enabling leadership skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in communications, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a large, matrixed organization, preferably in healthcare or insurance.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise-wide communications, including internal, external, and executive-level strategies.
  • Proven expertise in promoting technology-focused agendas, with knowledge of new age tools like AI, cloud computing, and digital platforms.
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment, with strong skills in cross-functional collaboration and influencing without direct authority.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a record of developing compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools, analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, social media metrics), and content management systems.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative setting, with a commitment to BCBSMA's values of inclusion and community impact.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills. Detail oriented, decisive and goal oriented to consistently exceed objectives.

Salary Range: $120,690.00 - $147,510.00


The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future.  An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
