Position Summary

The Sr. Director, IT PMO will lead a high-performing IT Project/Program Management Office responsible for governance, delivery excellence, portfolio transparency, and measurable business outcomes across enterprise IT initiatives. This leader will drive consistent execution across a broad portfolio including enterprise applications, infrastructure, data & analytics, AI & automation, and internal digital transformation, partnering closely with business and technology stakeholders globally.

The role combines strategic portfolio leadership with hands-on operational rigor: building standards, improving delivery predictability, strengthening cross-functional coordination, and ensuring every program has clear value, ownership, and results.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end IT project and program portfolio, ensuring alignment to strategy, business priorities, and funding.
  • Lead prioritization and planning processes (annual/quarterly), including intake, business case validation, sequencing, dependency mapping, and capacity planning.
  • Drive value realization: ensure programs define outcomes, KPIs, benefits tracking, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Mature PMO governance including stage gates, risk/issue escalation, change control, and executive reporting.
  • Standardize delivery methods (Agile, hybrid, waterfall as appropriate), tools, templates, and best practices.
  • Improve delivery predictability: schedule adherence, resource utilization, scope control, quality, and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to IT leadership and senior business stakeholders, translating strategy into executable roadmaps.
  • Produce clear portfolio health insights for executive audiences—status, risks, trends, financials, and decisions required.
  • Facilitate governance forums (Steering Committees, Portfolio Reviews, Quarterly Business Reviews).
  • Partner with Finance and IT leaders on portfolio budgeting, forecasting, capitalization/expense alignment (as applicable), and cost optimization.
  • Oversee vendor delivery performance, SOW governance, and contract execution for program-related partners.
  • Ensure effective program-level procurement and vendor risk management.
  • Coach and develop talent; create career paths, onboarding, and performance expectations.
  • Build a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Own PMO tooling strategy (e.g., Smartsheet, Jira/Confluence, ServiceNow SPM, etc.).
  • Define and track PMO performance metrics
  • Drive continuous improvement through retrospectives, root-cause analysis, and process modernization.

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years in IT program/project leadership, including 7+ years leading a PMO or portfolio function in a mid-to-large enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex, cross-functional portfolios across applications, infrastructure, and security.
  • Proven ability to establish governance, improve delivery outcomes, and influence executive stakeholders.
  • Strong financial and operational management skills (portfolio budgeting, forecasting, vendor oversight).
  • Expertise with Agile/hybrid delivery approaches and PMO best practices.
  • Strong written and executive-level communication, including crisp status reporting and decision facilitation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a global, distributed organization with multiple time zones and cross-cultural stakeholder needs.
  • Background in SaaS/technology services, enterprise support, or high-growth environments.
  • Familiarity with ITSM/ITIL and enterprise governance models.
  • PMP, PgMP, PMI-ACP, PRINCE2, SAFe, or equivalent certification(s).
  • Advanced reporting/analytics skills (Power BI, Qlik) and PPM tooling implementation experience.

Location

Remote - Las Vegas, NV; candidates in the Pacific Time Zone will also be considered.
