Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Director Design to Value (DTV) to join the team. The Sr. Director of Design To Value (DTV) is responsible for driving value creation across the product portfolio by optimizing product cost, performance, sustainability, and customer experience. This role leads cross‑functional DTV initiatives—including Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Strategic Sourcing, Quality, and Finance—to systematically identify opportunities that reduce total cost, enhance manufacturability, accelerate time‑to‑market, and strengthen competitive differentiation.

 

The Director will build and mature a structured DTV program, develop governance methods, and lead high-impact workshops and teardown analyses to deliver measurable, sustainable business results.

 

This is a remote position.

 

Responsibilities

What Will You Do?

 

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute an enterprise-wide Design To Value strategy, aligning with corporate financial, innovation, and operational goals.
  • Champion DTV methodologies (should-cost modeling, value engineering, teardown analysis, benchmarking, etc.) across the organization.
  • Establish DTV governance, annual pipeline creation, prioritization frameworks, and savings tracking mechanisms.

Program Ownership & Execution

  • Lead multi-functional DTV workshops focused on product simplification, material optimization, design standardinkzation, and alternative technology adoption.
  • Drive the creation of should-cost models and provide insights that guide engineering and sourcing decisions.
  • Conduct global competitive product teardowns, synthesizing insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Partner with Strategic Sourcing to evaluate supplier innovations and cost‑optimized solutions.
  • Work with Product Management to incorporate DTV considerations into early-stage product development.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the connector between engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, and commercial teams to ensure end‑to‑end alignment.
  • Influence key stakeholders on cost/performance trade-offs by leveraging robust financial and technical analysis.
  • Support Operations in identifying manufacturing productivity and process optimization opportunities.

Financial & Business Impact

  • Deliver annual cost savings targets through DTV initiatives, ensuring transparent financial validation with Finance.
  • Evaluate cost-benefit analyses for proposed design changes, including ROI, payback, and lifecycle value.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive intelligence to support long‑term value creation.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in product development, value engineering, strategic sourcing, or operations leadership.
  • Demonstrated track record leading DTV, should-cost, or value engineering programs with measurable P&L impact.
  • Strong analytical capability and familiarity with tools such as should‑cost software, CAD, DFMA, or cost-modeling platforms.
  • Experience leading complex, cross-functional projects with executive visibility.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and storytelling skills—able to influence at all organizational levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (MBA or Engineering discipline).
  • Experience in manufacturing, consumer goods, industrial products, or electronics industries.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or cost engineering certification.
  • Understanding of global supply markets and cost drivers (materials, labor, technology, logistics).
  • Background in product teardown labs or competitive benchmarking programs.
