About Archive

Join Archive in our mission to change consumer shopping behavior for the better. If you think humans buy too much stuff and throw too much away, then this problem is for you. As the leading technology platform for branded resale, we now power circular businesses for 50+ brands globally including Lululemon, The North Face and New Balance.

We are growing our team of highly motivated, forward-thinking individuals to help build the most delightful user experience for shopping used items, and the software to help brands make this a significant part of their business. If this mission speaks to you, come join us as we grow our share of the booming second hand market—projected to grow 3X faster than the overall global apparel market and to hit $350 Billion globally by 2028.

About the role

As an Engineering Manager at Archive, you’ll lead a team of software engineers responsible for building and scaling a platform that powers branded resale for 50+ global brands. This is a hands-on people leadership role where success is measured by the strength of your team, the quality of execution, and the consistency of outcomes.

You’ll partner closely with Product, Implementation, and Success to prioritize the right work, unblock delivery, and ensure we ship high-impact outcomes in a predictable way — while maintaining a high bar for craft, reliability, and customer experience.

What you’ll do
  • Lead and grow a team of engineers, owning performance management, coaching, and day-to-day people leadership

  • Build a high-trust team culture where engineers feel supported, challenged, and empowered to do their best work

  • Run a strong operating cadence (1:1s, feedback loops, goal-setting, and career development) to help engineers grow their skills and impact

  • Own prioritization and execution for your team, partnering closely with Product, Implementation, and/or Success to balance scope, quality, and delivery timelines

  • Drive predictable delivery by identifying risks early, aligning stakeholders, and adjusting scope or sequencing when needed

  • Coach technical decision-making through code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural trade-offs (without being the primary IC)

  • Raise the bar on how we build by improving engineering process and quality systems (planning, incident follow-up, root-cause analysis, documentation, and execution hygiene)

  • Partner with leadership and recruiting on hiring and onboarding, helping interview, close, and ramp up new engineers while maintaining a high bar for talent and culture

About you
  • You genuinely enjoy managing people and helping them grow

  • You lead with empathy, clarity, and accountability

  • You value direct, transparent, two-way feedback and don’t avoid tough conversations

  • You’re outcomes-driven and can keep your team focused on what matters most

  • You believe strong teams are built through trust, consistency, and clear expectations

  • You thrive in environments with real constraints — competing priorities, timelines, and external deliverables

  • You’re energized by root causing problems: when things go wrong, you look for the underlying issue and help prevent it from happening again

  • You’re mission-driven and excited about building a more circular economy through resale

What we are looking for
  • Experience managing a team of software engineers, including running performance reviews and growth conversations

  • Prior experience as a tech lead or EM accountable for delivery and execution against a roadmap

  • Strong technical foundation as a software engineer, with the ability to review PRs, coach technical decisions, and engage meaningfully in architectural discussions

  • Comfort partnering cross-functionally (especially with Product and customer-facing teams) to deliver outcomes in ambiguous environments

  • Bonus: experience at a 50–100 person Series B+ startup

  • Note: This role is primarily people leadership. You’ll stay close to the code and technical decisions, but you won’t be expected to carry a dedicated individual contributor workload.

Our stack
  • Frontend: Next.js + React + Redux + Apollo Client (TypeScript), Firebase Auth

  • Backend: Node.js (TypeScript), Hasura GraphQL Engine, Python

  • Database: PostgreSQL

  • Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform, Vercel

  • Collaboration: GitHub, Linear, Notion, Slack

Compensation varies based on a variety of factors which include (but aren’t limited to) role level, skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, certain roles are eligible for equity as well, and all employees are eligible for a full benefits package including employee and dependent healthcare and 401(k) enrollment. Our team of over 50 employees is currently remote-first, with an office in NYC and optional in-person work for those located in the area. We have company offsites twice a year to bring the full team together in person, and occasional travel is expected as part of the job.

Archive is a Series B company backed by lauded investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Energize Capital, and Bain Capital Ventures. We prize an inclusive and transparent culture, and remain true to our values in everything we do. We were honored as Fast Company’s #2 Most Innovative Company in Retail in 2024, and continue to challenge ourselves to change consumer shopping behavior for the better.

We consider applicants of all backgrounds. If you are excited about what we’re building but don't meet some of the criteria above, please don’t let that discourage you from applying. Please note, we are unable to accept applications from candidates outside of the US at this time.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
