This Software Engineer role involves developing Lexi's app, integrating AI for real-time medical translation, and ensuring HIPAA compliance.
We are looking for a product-focused Software Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of Lexi’s product, infrastructure, and AI agents. We are a multidisciplinary team with backgrounds in business, design, engineering, law, and public health – united by our immigrant backgrounds and a shared mission to break language barriers in healthcare. As an early member of the engineering team, you will have the opportunity to make and influence foundational decisions about how this system is built, the direction the product takes, and how the engineering team will grow.
What You'll Work On
- Building the Lexi app end-to-end — from the UI our users interact with daily to the backend services that power it
- Making AI useful, trusted, and reliable in a high-stakes setting: real-time medical translation where accuracy matters more than anywhere else
- Stitching together data pipelines, ML models, and LLMs into a product that feels seamless to a clinician mid-appointment
- Visiting customer sites and talking to users, turning what you learn into what we build next
- Solving the puzzle of handling sensitive health data responsibly — HIPAA compliance, de-identification, and privacy
Who You Are
- Experience in a role such as but not limited to software engineer, data engineer, AI engineer.
- Familiar with Next.js, React, or similar frontend frameworks. You prioritize understanding how the user sees and experience the systems you've built.
- Familiar with Go, Java, C++, or similar backend technologies. You've written and owned complex ecosystems and deployed them in production.
- Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure), and/or real-time audio/video and WebRTC.
- Experience in voice AI or NLP is a plus.
- Experience in an early-stage startup is a plus.
- Passionate about leveraging technology for social impact, particularly in healthcare and language accessibility.
That said, if your strengths don't map neatly to one of these, we're still interested. We are also interested in interns or temporary contractors.
