The base salary range for this role is $120,000 - $191,500.

What You'll Do:
- Design, build, and maintain both backend services and front-end interfaces that enable rich, responsive experiences for customers and internal users
- Lead and participate in medium to large-scale projects by reviewing requirements, translating them into technical solutions, gathering information, writing and developing code, conducting unit testing, communicating status and issues to collaborators, solving open issues and bugs, and ensuring on-time delivery and handoff
- Work with both Java-based microservices and front-end technologies like React
- Perform design and code reviews across both backend and frontend codebases
- Create and implement a shift-left approach in testing and development
- Work with a geo-distributed team in an agile development environment
- Collaborate closely with Application Development and Architecture teams
- Champion engineering excellence and focus on scalability, resiliency, high availability, and performance
- Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development
- Mentor and support peers, contributing to Chewy's internal engineering community
- Work with key partners and service providers to build impactful technical solutions
What You'll Need:
- Strong knowledge and proven expertise with Java and Spring-based REST services.
- Hands-on engineering approach with a focus on writing high-quality, maintainable code.
- Experience building and integrating frontend applications using React and GraphQL
- Strong understanding of Java concurrency, thread-safe design patterns, and cloud-native development in AWS or GCP
- Familiarity with messaging systems like Kafka or ActiveMQ
- Experience with modern tools and environments including GitHub, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines
- BS degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent experience in a practical setting
- Willingness to travel, if required
Bonus:
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
- Experience with GitHub and AWS or other cloud platforms
- Strong understanding of API design and development at scale
- Working knowledge of frontend architecture, including component-driven design
- Experience in the eCommerce domain is a plus
The base salary range for this role is $120,000 - $191,500.
- The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.
