The Role: 

We are seeking a creative and motivated Software Engineer to help build the protein generation platform required to achieve our ambitious goals. This role involves working across the technology stack to design, develop, deploy, and maintain our design platform that fuels our protein generation efforts. The successful candidate will work closely with ML Scientists, Computational Biologists, and Informatics/IT engineers to implement solutions that rapidly advance our scientific programs. This role is based in our Somerville, MA office with flexibility for hybrid work.

Here's how you will contribute:

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of the user interface for Generate Biomedicine’s design platform, enabling rapid feedback, monitoring, and management, of distributed computational workflows.
• Partner with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment to influence product direction, drive engineering best practices, and improve team velocity.
• Architect and implement scalable service-oriented architectures, and APIs with a focus on reliability, performance, and long-term maintainability.
• Own the resolution of complex technical issues by diagnosing root causes, coordinating fixes, and proactively identifying areas of improvement.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

• 3+ years of experience working in a Software Engineer role with Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
• Comprehensive expertise in backend web development, including interface design, API architecture, and database management.
• Proficiency in Python and strong object-oriented design skills coupled with a solid understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Proficient in fundamental front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React.
• Exhibits excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information and instructions clearly and concisely to a diverse audience.
