The Engineering Team at Wise is central to what has made the business successful. Having product-focused and forward-thinking engineers has allowed Wise to cater to the needs of customers unlike any other business. They have built a world-leading platform and product, but there is still more to do.

The EDD Verification team at Wise is responsible for tackling one of the most complex problems in financial compliance: Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) for both personal and business customers. This involves delving deeper into customer profiles and business structures to ensure compliance with global regulations. This problem remains largely unsolved due to its inherent complexity, and we are building innovative backend solutions to address it.

As a Software Engineer at Wise, you will be a key contributor to the team, focusing on delivering specific, well-defined projects that directly support our mission. Your responsibilities will include:

• Writing and maintaining clean, high-quality, and testable code.

• Working with senior engineers to implement new features and services within our backend system.

• Debugging and resolving issues in our production environment.

• Collaborating with other engineers to understand system architecture and best practices.

• Participating in code reviews and contributing to a healthy team culture of learning and continuous improvement.

What we expect from you:

• You have 2+ years of professional experience with Java 8+ and the Spring framework.

• You have a good grasp of software engineering fundamentals and enjoy writing clean, testable code.

• You have experience working with relational databases and are comfortable with SQL queries.

• You are eager to learn about complex distributed systems and microservices architecture.

• You are a good communicator and can articulate technical ideas clearly to your teammates.

• You are passionate about building products that customers love and are excited to work on problems with real-world impact.

• You are a proactive problem-solver who is not afraid to ask questions and take initiative.

• You’ll be able to work independently on well-defined tasks, consistently delivering high-quality code.

• You’ll have a solid understanding of the EDD verification process and the backend systems that support it.

• You’ll understand our customers and the impact our product makes in their lives.

• You’ll help us scale our systems by building reliable and efficient solutions.
