Job Title: Director of Business – MedTech & Life Sciences

Position Summary:

ALTEN Technology USA is seeking a Director of Business to lead and coach a team of Account Managers, Sr. Account Managers, and Business Team Managers in achieving activity and results targets (revenue and profit) within the MedTech and Life Sciences industries. This role focuses on developing and executing business plans, actively coaching and developing the sales team, recruiting and building the team, and cultivating strong executive-level client relationships, particularly in product development and manufacturing.

Additionally, this role involves building a team of consultants through recruitment, coaching, and ongoing engagement to create a dynamic and committed environment that stimulates business growth and supports customers in MedTech and Life Sciences.

The third focus area is strategic growth, including uncovering new opportunities, designing and executing sales strategies, and fostering key strategic prospect relationships. The Director will assign responsibilities to the team and guide them to optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervisory Needs and Responsibilities:
    • Create new business opportunities by prospecting new customers within MedTech, Life Sciences, and engineering sectors, with a focus on product development and manufacturing.
    • Manage existing account relationships and support active client projects.
    • Optimize business profitability with mid- to large-size accounts.
    • Close deals on service-based or time-based contracts.
    • Determine proposal and pricing strategies to close sales and win business, supporting the company in meeting its commercial objectives.
    • Build close customer relationships and maintain regular contact with customer managers to gain trust and develop business needs.
    • Support consultants in their professional development to maintain employee satisfaction and increase retention.
    • Coach team members through all aspects of their roles, follow up and report KPIs weekly, and take responsibility for the team’s actions and performance.
    • Address performance issues within the team through close coaching and guidance.
    • Travel to existing and prospective customer sites to understand and develop solutions that support customer needs, with support from the technical team as needed.

Qualifications

  • MSc or BSc degrees in Engineering or Business are required.
  • 8–10 years of experience in Business Development, Account Management, or Sales, with 2–4 years in Sales Leadership roles.
  • Ability to draft business plans and drive execution.
  • Experience in MedTech, Life Sciences, or engineering consulting services is highly preferred, with a focus on product development and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations in MedTech and Life Sciences is a plus.
  • Experience building business internationally, with a focus on offshore operations, is preferred.
  • Established network of relevant MedTech, Life Sciences, and engineering contacts and customers.
  • Excellent communication skills with all levels of candidates, clients, and employees, including fluent English (spoken and written).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • 3+ years of experience managing sales teams.
  • Proven ability to manage a minimum of $5M in annual revenue.

  • Maintains a dynamic and engaged team of consultants and sales professionals.
