Design and build thermal performance analytics, Python-based engineering models, scalable data flows, and Edge-native applications for power plant asset performance management. Integrate historian, cloud, Edge, and industrial systems; develop automation, diagnostics, KPI validation, and root-cause workflows; support customer deployments; and lead architecture discussions while mentoring engineering teams.
Job Description SummaryWhat if your code could help a power plant run cleaner, smarter, and more efficiently — at scale, in real time, anywhere in the world? At GE Vernova, we're building the digital intelligence layer that powers the energy transition, and we need someone who can bridge the world of thermal engineering with modern software.
As a Senior Data Scientist within our APM (Asset Performance Management) Performance Intelligence team, you'll design and build the analytics, models, and Edge-native applications that help our customers see exactly how their assets are performing — and what to do about it. This is a role for someone who wants to shape how industrial analytics evolve, not just maintain what already exists.Job Description#LI-Remote - This is a remote positionApplication Deadline:

What You'll Do
- Build and advance thermal performance analytics within the APM Performance Intelligence suite — covering heat-rate, efficiency, degradation monitoring, and operational performance for combined cycle power plants, gas turbines, steam cycles, and HRSGs (Heat Recovery Steam Generators).
- Design and deliver end-to-end integration across historian data services, analytics engines, engineering models, visualization applications, and Edge computing platforms that provide real-time, offline-capable plant performance insights.
- Develop, validate, and optimize Python-based thermal models — including component-level models leveraging frameworks such as TESPy — calibrating them against real plant operating data across design and off-design conditions.
- Architect scalable data flows between plant control systems, historians, Edge infrastructure, and cloud applications, ensuring secure, reliable Performance Intelligence deployments.
- Build intelligent automation and AI-assisted workflows that automate analytics execution, KPI (Key Performance Indicator) validation, diagnostics, and root cause analysis across Edge and cloud environments.
- Lead technical discussions, architecture reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions across global engineering teams while mentoring colleagues on software development, thermal modeling, and Edge analytics best practices.
- Support customer deployments end-to-end — from configuration and integration testing through production support and post-deployment stabilization for both cloud and Edge environments.
Required
- A formal education and subsequent Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Power Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) field is nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
- 8–12 years of experience in performance engineering, thermal engineering, power plant analytics, industrial software development, or a closely related engineering domain.
- Strong programming skills in Python, including experience building engineering applications, data processing pipelines, and scientific computing solutions.
- Solid grounding in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and power plant performance engineering principles.
- Experience with plant historian systems, time-series data processing, and industrial data integration platforms.
- Experience integrating engineering applications using REST (Representational State Transfer) APIs, microservices, and modern backend architectures.
- Proficiency with Git, Linux, Docker, containerization, and CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery) pipeline practices.
Preferred
- Experience developing and deploying analytics on Edge platforms, including integration with cloud-based industrial software solutions.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as OPC-UA (Open Platform Communications – Unified Architecture), MQTT, or similar industrial IoT (Internet of Things) technologies.
- Knowledge of AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning) techniques, digital twins, automation agents, or Generative AI applied to industrial or engineering use cases.
