Included Health is a new kind of healthcare company, delivering integrated virtual care and navigation. We’re on a mission to raise the standard of healthcare for everyone.

We break down barriers to provide high-quality care for every person in every community—no matter where they are in their health journey or what type of care they need, from acute to chronic, behavioral to physical. We offer members care guidance, advocacy, and access to personalized virtual and in-person care. It’s all included.

About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build the next generation of Included Health’s member experience across the web.

This is a front-end-first full-stack role. You’ll spend a significant portion of your time designing and building thoughtful, accessible, high-performance web experiences, while also contributing to the backend services and APIs that make those experiences possible. We’re looking for someone with strong web engineering depth who is equally comfortable working across the stack when the problem calls for it.

The Member Experience team owns the products and platform capabilities that members use to understand, navigate, and take action on their healthcare. That includes core member-facing applications, the homepage and action platform, logged-out experiences, notifications, and other web surfaces that connect members to care.

You’ll join a team with meaningful opportunity to shape technical direction, improve how we build, and raise the bar for member-facing engineering across the organization. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on delivery, strong technical ownership, and the chance to grow toward Staff-level scope over time.

What you’ll do

  • Build and evolve high-quality member-facing web experiences using modern frontend technologies, with a focus on usability, accessibility, performance, and reliability.

  • Own meaningful projects end to end: clarify the problem, shape the technical approach, collaborate with Product and Design, ship iteratively, and measure outcomes.

  • Contribute across the full stack, including frontend applications, APIs, backend services, data flows, and integrations with partner systems.

  • Help define frontend architecture, including application patterns, state management, component reuse, testing strategy, observability, and performance practices.

  • Make thoughtful tradeoffs between speed, quality, maintainability, and user impact.

  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, Clinical, and other engineering teams to turn complex healthcare workflows into simple, intuitive member experiences.

  • Improve developer experience through better tooling, documentation, testing, development workflows, and engineering standards.

  • Help the team adopt effective AI-assisted and agentic coding practices while maintaining a high bar for code quality, security, and engineering judgment.

  • Participate in design reviews, technical planning, code reviews, incident follow-up, and ongoing improvements to reliability and latency.

  • Mentor other engineers and contribute to a culture of direct feedback, collaboration, learning, and ownership.

What you bring

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production web applications.

  • Deep hands-on frontend expertise with JavaScript or TypeScript and a modern web framework such as React.

  • Strong understanding of frontend architecture, including state management, component design, browser behavior, performance, accessibility, and testing.

  • Experience building responsive, accessible, and reliable user experiences that serve real customer or member needs.

  • Full-stack experience and the ability to contribute effectively to APIs, backend services, data flows, and service integrations.

  • Experience making technical decisions within ambiguous problem spaces and driving projects from concept through production.

  • Strong product instincts and a track record of partnering effectively with Product and Design.

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical partners.

  • A pragmatic, collaborative approach: you’re comfortable taking ownership, asking thoughtful questions, incorporating feedback, and getting important work across the finish line.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
