CMT is seeking a senior-level versatile Software Engineer to join our AI Native team. This team has a dual mandate: spreading efficient AI tool usage across the organization and building new AI-based tools for wider use. Recent projects have ranged from building a PR reviewer, to an AI Engineer, to spend management tools. The team works primarily with Product and Engineering teams, but also looks to grow efficient AI usage in other teams where needed (e.g. HR, Finance). The team sources ideas from inside and outside the company to build prototypes; prototypes with traction are then more fully developed by the team and used across the company. If you’re interested in using your skills to make the world's roads and drivers safer, we’d like to meet you.

CMT is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, AI Native to help us change the world. CMT has helped protect over 65 million drivers and prevent over 126,000 crashes worldwide. We build AI to solve some of the most difficult challenges in mobility — understanding and reducing risk, detecting crashes, and getting people life-saving help. The problems are hard. The impact is real. No matter your role, your work will matter at CMT.

Responsibilities:

  • Use independent judgment and discretion to source the latest practical AI Native ideas and solutions from inside and outside the company
  • Clearly communicate at a variety of levels: in depth with engineers, and at higher but practical levels with non-engineers
  • Assess the trade-offs between solutions in terms of complexity, cost, and other factors
  • Work with external vendors / trials as necessary (e.g. open-weights models)
  • Develop prototypes quickly and shop them to the appropriate audience
  • Productize the team’s prototypes to the appropriate level such that they can be used across the company
  • Apply a security-mindset to your and others’ work
  • Present your work to small audiences to gain traction and feedback
  • Complete any additional tasks that may arise

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience and/or certification in Computer Science or related field
  • 4+ years of relevant working experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend applications, services, and APIs
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python and Golang
  • AI Literacy: experience with AI tools for engineers (e.g. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor)
  • Experience with databases (e.g. SQL)
  • Experience building LLM-powered applications and MCP servers
  • Experience working with services in AWS
  • Experience with security analyses and auditing in an AI setting
  • Ability to commute to our Cambridge, MA office 3 days per week
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Fair and competitive salary based on skills and experience, and annual performance bonus
  • Equity may be awarded in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)
  • Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance, matching 401k, short-term & long-term disability and parental leave
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off including vacation, sick days & public holidays
  • Flexible scheduling and work from home policy depending on role and responsibilities

Base Salary Range

  • The base salary range for this position is: $139,300 to $174,100. This range is specifically for Cambridge, MA

Additional Perks:

  • Work on a mission with real impact: crashes prevented, injuries avoided, lives protected around the world
  • Join an industry leader — 65 million drivers protected, powering 140+ programs across 25 countries
  • Recognized innovator in mobility AI, earning top honors including the TIME Industry Leader in AI, a Gold Edison Award, and the Artificial Intelligence Excellence Award for AI for Social Good. CMT is also Great Place to Work Certified
  • Be part of the team inventing the future of mobility and road safety
  • Move fast, own outcomes, do work that matters
  • High ownership, small teams, and direct access to leadership — no layers between your work and its impact
  • Unlimited PTO, flexible scheduling, competitive salary, annual performance bonus, RSUs, and full benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401k match
  • Summer Fridays provide team members with half days to recharge
  • Join one of our employee resource groups: Black, AAPI, LGBTQIA+, Women, Book Club, and Health & Wellness
  • Comprehensive wellness, education, and employee assistance programs
