About the Opportunity

Job Summary

Northeastern University is looking for an experienced video producer for its daily social-first news and storytelling content for TikTok, Instagram, and other vertical video platforms. The Sr. Social News Producer is responsible for creating high-impact multimedia content focused on news, information, and entertainment that is geared toward various audiences and promotes Northeastern University’s brand and academic mission. The role involves conceptualizing, shooting, and editing fast-turnaround content that showcases breaking news stories and university news in real time.

The Senior Social News Producer regularly appears on camera as part of a rotating team, and also brings the technical range to shoot longer-form content as needed, including podcast-style interviews and executive-level video projects. This is a hands-on production role, not a supervisory one.

The role reports to the Creative Director for Social Video and part of the Communications division. The position is based on the Boston campus and is fully on site, five days a week. As is the case for all members of the Communications team, after-hours work, including evenings and weekends is often required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years shooting and editing in a professional environment, with a strong portfolio of vertical, social-first video, including news content.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and/or DaVinci Resolve.
  • Demonstrated ability to shoot and edit longer-form video (10+ minutes), including interview-style and multi-camera setups, and condense those into consumable, social-forward content
  • Strong on-camera presence and experience appearing in social video content.
  • Deep, current knowledge of social platform trends, news cycles, and how to translate fast-moving stories into engaging vertical video.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction, set priorities, and mentor less experienced team members informally.
  • Excellent attention to detail while maintaining speed and consistency under deadline pressure.
  • Excellent work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Sense of humor.

Great if you also have:

  • Familiarity with social media analytical tools (Sprinklr, Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Experience producing or shooting podcast-style video content.
  • Familiarity with AP style.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Conceptualize, shoot, and edit daily social-first news and storytelling content, primarily for TikTok and Instagram.
  • Set the visual and technical quality bar for the team's vertical video output.
  • Lead production on longer-form content as needed, including podcast-style shoots and executive/leadership video projects.
  • Appear on camera regularly as part of a rotating team.
  • Stay ahead of platform trends and news cycles to identify timely content opportunities.
  • Informally guide and give feedback to less experienced junior content creators on technique and editorial judgment.
