ABOUT STRM.BIO
STRM.BIO (pronounced “storm bio”) is a VC-backed biotech startup building a new kind of gene therapy delivery platform based on naturally occurring extracellular vesicles (EVs). We're leveraging the unique biology of EVs to unlock targeted, scalable, and low-immunogenicity genentic medicines that target the bone marrow.
We’re a small, fast-moving team based at The Engine in Cambridge, MA. We believe in simplicity, integrity, and keeping people at the center of everything we do. We’re here to do great science and build a company we’re proud of.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We’re looking for a Senior Scientist to help lead and grow our research engine. You’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with the VP of R&D and Director of Research to drive key programs forward and manage external collaborations. This is a hands-on, highly cross-functional role ideal for someone who’s ready to lead and execute in equal measure. This is a full-time, on-site role.
WHAT YOU’LL DO (Key Responsibilities)
  • Lead day-to-day scientific execution across internal teams and CRO/academic partners
  • Own program timelines and technical plans; troubleshoot and drive decisions to keep progress on track
  • Design, run, and refine experiments, hands-on and alongside junior team members
  • Coordinate with collaborators, ensure data integrity, and maintain clean documentation across projects
  • Contribute to company strategy through project planning, milestone tracking, and resource scoping
  • Present internally and externally, including pitch decks, grant applications, and scientific meetings
  • Stay sharp on emerging EV, gene therapy, and CAR-T technologies to shape R&D direction
  • Pitch in on lab ops, team culture, and whatever else it takes to get the job done
WHAT YOU BRING (Required Qualifications)
  • Ph.D. + 5 years’ postdoc or industry experience in gene therapy/genetic medicines, CAR-T, or related areas
  • Deep expertise in in vivo gene delivery platforms (viral vectors, LNPs, EVs)
  • Strong bench skills in molecular/cell biology, including flow cytometry, qPCR, Western, microscopy, NGS
  • Experience developing ex vivo and in vivo CAR-T or other T-cell based therapies
  • Solid working knowledge of genome editing tools (CRISPR, Cre-lox, etc.)
  • Experience managing external partners (CROs, academic labs)
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, shifting priorities, and high ownership environments
  • Excellent communicator, highly organized, strong attention to detail
  • Bonus: experience with startup ops, grant writing, or early product development
KEY POSITION DETAILS
  • 100% on-site in Cambridge, MA
  • Full time with competitive compensation
    • The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $160,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including, without limitation, individual education, experience, tenure, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data, including potential adjustments for geographic location.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
