What we are looking for
We are looking for a Senior QA Engineer to act as the final line of defense for our living room applications. You aren't just looking for broken code; you are looking for anything that breaks the "magic" of the streaming experience. In this role, you will lead the testing strategy for Roku, Android TV/Fire TV, Apple TV, and other Smart TV ecosystems. You will ensure that our UI is fluid, our video playback is instant, and our app feels native to every piece of hardware it touches.

Own your outcomes: You are the gatekeeper of quality. If a bug reaches a viewer's living room, you lead the charge in understanding why and how to prevent it.
Resource Stewardship: Balance the need for deep manual "feel" testing with efficient automated regression suites.
Know your customer: Test from the perspective of a viewer sitting on a couch with a remote in their hand, not just a dev at a desk.
Essential Functions
End-to-End Verification: Execute comprehensive test plans across a diverse "Wall of TVs," focusing on the end-user journey from app launch to video playback.
UX & Focus Engine Polish: Rigorously test the "10-foot experience." Ensure D-pad navigation is intuitive, focus states are clear, and there is no "UI stutter" or "jank" during transitions.
Video Quality Assurance: Manually and programmatically verify stream health, including 4K/HDR rendering, closed captioning synchronization, and multi-language audio switching.
Regression Management: Maintain and execute a suite of automated tests to ensure new features don't break existing platform stability.
Hardware Fragmentation Testing: Identify and document platform-specific bugs (e.g., a memory leak occurring only on older Roku Express sticks vs. newer Ultra models).
Network & Performance Profiling: Use proxy tools to simulate low-bandwidth environments, ensuring our app handles buffering and offline states gracefully.
Defect Advocacy: Work side-by-side with developers to reproduce complex race conditions and provide detailed logs (Roku logs, ADB, etc.) to speed up fixes.
Must attend and contribute to regularly scheduled staff meetings.
Proficiency in speaking, reading and writing in the English language required. Additional language proficiency is a plus.
Specialization
Experience: 5+ years in Quality Assurance, with a heavy focus on OTT (Over-the-Top) or Smart TV applications.
Platform Mastery: Deep familiarity with the quirks of the Roku ecosystem (BrightScript/SceneGraph) is highly preferred.
The QA Toolkit: Proficiency with debugging tools like Charles Proxy/Fiddler, Chrome DevTools, Roku’s telnet console, and Android Debug Bridge (ADB).
Automation Mindset: While this is a QA-first role, you should be comfortable executing and updating scripts in frameworks like Appium or platform-specific SDKs.
AI Tools: Experience with Claude, Cursor, or any other beneficial AI experience. In our fast paced engineering Angel is motivated to increase our productivity via AI tools/applications.
Performance Monitoring: Experience identifying UI lag, slow "Time to First Frame," and app crashes using observability tools.

Compentencies
The "Viewer's Eye": An obsessive attention to detail regarding font rendering, image aspect ratios, and animation timing.
Methodical Explorer: Ability to find "edge case" bugs that occur during non-linear user behavior (e.g., rapid clicking, mid-stream network loss).
Technical Communicator: Able to translate a vague "it's slow" report into a technical ticket with logs, steps to reproduce, and impacted hardware versions.
Adaptability: Comfortable switching gears between a high-end Apple TV 4K and a resource-constrained legacy Smart TV.
Experienced with test automation engineering frameworks like LambdaTest, Rainforest QA, Selenium, Kobiton, Appium, Perfecto, and cloud testing.
AI experience with test automation is a plus. There are some great efforts being made with AI on this team.
Passionate about careful, deliberate system design and planning that lead to automation that is future-proof, maintainable, and quickly adaptable to product advances.

Work environment - When in the main office, expect a comfortable, air-conditioned work environment. Team members are issued their own desks, but the office is an open, shared space and can be fast-paced and occasionally noisy.
Physical demands - Will need to be able to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods of time.
Position type and expected hours of work - Regular full-time, 40 hours per week.
Travel required - Regular out-of-state travel is not anticipated.
Required education and experience
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
5 years of relevant experience.
