We are looking for a Senior Product Portfolio Strategy & Performance Manager to join our or industry-leading Product Operations division. Your role will be to manage and drive outcomes across athenahealth’s R&D operating cadence and the lifecycle of its portfolio of investments, working in partnership with R&D leadership and cross-divisional senior leaders. Additionally, you will program manage defined cross-R&D and company initiatives, aligning with the broader team’s role in managing our R&D investment portfolio. This position requires the ability to create new operational levers while also optimizing existing ones to drive R&D initiative results and deliver value to our clients and cross-division stakeholders.

You thrive in ambiguity and take an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving while being able to monitor progress of performance and pivot accordingly.   

 The Team: Our team was recently highlighted in the groundbreaking book on "Product Operations: How successful companies build better products at scale” with a case study focused on our successful build-out, scale, and execution of athenahealth’s Product and R&D functions. Our team operates across the entire lifecycle of athenahealth products, from long-range business cases to the roadmap, release, and post-release outcomes. Our team balances an obsession with executing the R&D portfolio at scale in line with the expectations of our private equity owners and disrupting the current state of the US healthcare ecosystem, delighting our provider and patient end users by reducing administrative burden and simplifying healthcare delivery and payment.

Job Responsibilities    

  • Coordinate and drive the full R&D operating cadence in partnership with Product Operations and company leadership.
  • Define, launch, and deliver highly complex and ambiguous programs aligned with athenaOne portfolio investments, ranging from new capabilities launches to migrations and product financial performance optimization.
  • Align internal support functions to close product deficiencies and drive outcomes across product development lifecycle and programs 
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to develop performance analytics, analyze program initiatives, and synthesize findings to executive leadership for rapid decision making  
  • Dive deep into existing functionality of athena product / services and R&D operational data to inform new performance initiative opportunities  
  • Coordinate with internal teams to drive tool development to aide in client & product performance based on business requirements  
  • Be self-sufficient in leveraging all resources at his/her disposal to effectively define and manage multiple, concurrent initiatives, balance timelines and deliverables, and communicate results to key stakeholders.   

Typical Qualifications    

  • Bachelor’s degree required, plus at least 7-10 years of professional experience   
  • MBA preferred 
  • Enjoys collaborating and achieving outcomes through various business functions and stakeholders
  • Strong financial acumen & data analysis skills 
  • Thrives in ambiguity and bringing structure to white space  
  • Takes an entrepreneurial approach to owning and solving problems  
  • Experience executing processes and projects to meet business goals in cross-functional team settings   
  • Knowledge and understanding of current trends in healthcare
