About GrowthFactor

GrowthFactor is the AI analyst for commercial real estate. It makes expansion analysis as easy as asking a question, then grounds every answer in a model tailored to your brand, so you can open the right locations, faster. Ask where to grow in plain English and see the answer on a live map.

About the role

We're looking for a Senior Product Engineer on our Product Engineering team. You will put companies in physical buildings where they belong. This is a high-ownership role for someone who wants to shape both the technical foundation and the product direction of a company at an early and critical stage.

We care about what you’ve done, not how long you’ve done it for. You will write your own tasks.

What you'll do

  • Drive architecture and technical direction across the full stack, backend, frontend, and data services.

  • Build and ship product features

  • Raise the technical bar for the team through architecture review, code review, and hands-on mentorship

  • Identify and eliminate complexity and technical debt before it becomes a blocker

  • Prototype and evaluate new technologies and make principled decisions about what belongs in the stack

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Designed & shipped a full-stack application involving heavy data model manipulation in Python or TypeScript.

  • Coordinated queries across disparate data sources with an eye towards speed

  • Designed, built, and maintained data pipelines to unify multiple different data sources, at different frequencies, using a common orchestration tool (e.g., Dagster, Airflow)

  • Built an application that involved multiplayer and/or client-side sync

  • Showed a lot of data on a screen really fast

Preferred qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience with backend development using Python and/or TypeScript

  • 4+ years of experience with relational databases and data modeling, including schema design, normalization, and query optimization in PostgreSQL

  • Experience building or integrating with AI agents, LLM-based workflows, or Model Context Protocol (MCP) tooling

  • Experience working with geospatial data, including storage, querying, or visualization (e.g., PostGIS, GeoJSON, or similar)

  • Familiarity with sync engines or real-time data synchronization patterns (e.g., Zero, ElectricSQL, or similar)

  • Experience defining and driving technical strategy across a small engineering team, including establishing standards, reviewing architecture, and mentoring engineers

  • Experience working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with a high degree of ownership

About you

You simplify and accelerate by finding the most direct path to a good outcome and ruthlessly cutting what doesn't serve it. You reason from first principles rather than reaching for a playbook, and you have strong enough taste to know what good looks like in code, in product, and in process. You can separate your identity from your work, which means you're willing to throw away something you built if something better exists. You're curious, and you build without waiting for permission.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
