At Sonos we want to create the ultimate listening experience for our customers and know that it starts by listening to each other. As part of the Sonos team, you’ll collaborate with people of all styles, skill sets, and backgrounds to realize our vision while fostering a community where everyone feels included and empowered to do the best work of their lives.

As a Senior People Partner for Business Functions, that means being embedded in the business, not adjacent to it. You will work directly with leaders across a global, cross-functional client group, bringing the analytical rigor, judgment, HR expertise, and execution speed those teams expect from their best partners. You will work closely with the broader People Team, providing business context to shape how we design and evolve people practices, while also bringing People team expertise and priorities back into the business. This role requires someone who thinks like a business leader and operates like an expert practitioner, analytical, fast, and comfortable making judgment calls without a playbook.   If you thrive in a fast-fast, complex, problem solving environment and want your work to matter at every level of the organization, this role is for you.

This Role is a Hybrid Position
This position is considered hybrid, allowing for a combination of remote work and in-office collaboration. Qualified applicants must live within commuting distance of our downtown Boston office and should expect to be in office a minimum of 3 days per week.

What You’ll Do:

Partner to the Business:

  • Build trust and credibility with leaders and managers across a global client group, becoming a genuine part of how their teams operate, not a resource they call when something goes wrong.

  • Integrate into the rhythms of the business: staff meetings, planning cycles, and leadership conversations. Know the priorities, the pressures, and the people well enough to anticipate needs, not just respond to them.

  • Translate business context into people strategies, knowing when to leverage existing Sonos frameworks and when to flag that something new is needed.

  • Navigate organizational change with leaders, bringing clear thinking and steady judgment when the path forward is ambiguous.

  • Manage executive and senior leadership relationships, ensuring leaders remain aligned with business priorities and build trust with key stakeholders.

Execute with Excellence:

  • Own the full range of people work for your client groups: performance management, PIPs, employee relations, resourcing, backfills, leaves, and internal mobility. This is not work you delegate up or out.

  • Apply broad HR knowledge across the employee lifecycle, knowing when to act independently and when to bring in the right specialist, whether that's ER, Legal, or a COE.

  • Bring data and org health insights into your leadership conversations, using what's in front of you to diagnose problems and recommend solutions.

  • Navigate compliance and risk with confidence across a global client group, understanding that context and jurisdiction matter and knowing when to ask for help.

  • Handle sensitive situations and confidential information with discretion and sound judgment, every time.

  • Manage competing priorities across a complex, fast-moving client group without losing quality or accountability.

Contribute to the People Team

  • Show up as a full member of the People team, bringing what you see in the business back to inform how we think and build, not just executing strategy handed down to your client groups.

  • Partner with COEs, ER, and People Operations to bring the right expertise to your client groups and bring what you're seeing in the business back to inform how we evolve our practices.

  • Champion and land company-wide People initiatives within your client groups with the same rigor and credibility you bring to everything else

What You’ll Need:

Basic Qualifications

  • Seasoned People Partner with 10 or more years of experience in the People Partner space

  • Global experience across all core HR functions; experience supporting Revenue & Sales organizations in a global environment is a plus.

  • Strong ability to work independently with minimal oversight.

  • Excellent understanding of HR workflows and operational best practices; knowledge of Workday and leading with Data is a must.

  • Expertise in managing risk and complex, global, sensitive situations.

  • Experience supporting a complex client group with diverse needs.

  • Ability to work from our Boston office 3+ days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to align people strategies with business priorities.

  • Effective communicator with the ability to flex communication style and demonstrate executive presence.

  • Comfortable navigating conflict and facilitating difficult conversations to drive productive outcomes.

  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on execution and continuous improvement.

Core Competencies

  • Business Acumen: Understanding of the interdependencies between various functions and an organization’s strategies, priorities, and operations.

  • Strong Judgement: Ability to remain steady and make sound decisions in periods of change and ambiguity.

  • Communication: Skilled communicator with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and influence effectively.

  • HR Expertise & Risk Mitigation: Strong foundation of Global HR knowledge, including legal compliance and best practices.

  • Operational Excellence: Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and effective prioritization.

  • Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Ability to navigate ambiguity, think systemically, and apply creative problem-solving approaches.

Inclusion: Research shows that some candidates may not apply for roles if they don't meet all the criteria. If you don’t have 100% of the skills listed, we still strongly encourage you to apply if interested.

Visa Sponsorship: Sonos is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this role at this time. We ask that applicants be authorized to work for us in country of role posting, both now and in the future.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
