About Us:

Monarch is a powerful, all-in-one personal finance platform designed to help make the complexity of finances feel simple again. Since launching in 2021, we've become the top-recommended personal finance app by users and experts. Our goal? To take the stress out of finances so our members can focus on what truly matters.

We are a team of do-ers led by experienced entrepreneurs who are passionate about helping our members reach their financial goals. We're hyper focused on building a product people love, and on finding every edge that helps us do that better. AI is core to how we operate: every person on the team uses it as a partner to sharpen judgment, move faster, and expand what's possible. We're not looking for tool mastery, we're looking for fluency and curiosity. What matters is that AI is part of how you work today and that you're actively raising your own bar on how to use it well.

As a fully remote company (even before COVID!), we welcome applicants from almost anywhere. Our team collaborates synchronously mostly from 9 AM – 2 PM PT and embraces asynchronous work to stay connected across time zones.

Join us on our mission to transform lives by simplifying money, together.

The role

Monarch is just under a year into a brand new People Tech stack. The systems are in place but not yet optimized, and the day-to-day volume has grown enough to need a dedicated owner.

The core of the role is our HRIS (HiBob) and everything that flows out of it. Around that sits the general people inbox, a rotating set of floating projects, our people reporting, and the logistics that keep programs running. It's a generalist seat for someone who wants to own the ambiguity, build the systems underneath the team, and move fast.

Nothing here is set in stone. There's room to overhaul what exists, and an expectation that it keeps getting refined as tools ship new features and the team changes shape – that's a big part of the work.

What you'll own
  • HRIS and systems. Own HiBob and how data feeds out of it. Build and refine the architecture, create automations and workflows, and get our integrations (Gusto, Sequoia, B-Swift, Fidelity, Remote) into an optimal state.

  • General intake. Run the first line of the people inbox. Triage what comes in, route it to the right person, and make reaching out to the People team a positive experience.

  • Specialty projects. Pick up the well-scoped but unstructured projects as priorities shift. Some weeks that means going deep on one thing, others it means improving something because we have the extra capacity.

  • People data and reporting. Build and own the people metrics dashboard: input and output metrics across the team's swim lanes, in one overview the board, execs, and leadership can use.

  • Program logistics. Run the operational and systems side of people programs so program owners can focus on the substance.

What makes someone great at this
  • Pulled toward systems and data. Builds integrations and automations for fun, and wants everything to talk to each other so employees never update the same thing in three places.

  • Moves at startup velocity. Builds a plan, works it, and adapts when something pulls the team off it.

  • Open about AI and can show how they've used it. We provide the tools to give people room to try things.

  • Spots what's brewing under the surface and raises it early, so we can decide together whether to watch it or fix it now.

  • Communicates clearly.

  • Makes going to the People team feel easy, which builds trust across the business.

What you bring
  • 4+ years in People/HR operations, ideally at a startup or fast-scaling company. You've been the person the day-to-day runs through.

  • Hands-on HRIS ownership. You've configured and maintained an HRIS (HiBob a plus) and built the workflows, fields, and automations behind it, not just worked inside one someone else set up.

  • Comfort with integrations and data flow. You've connected systems, caught where data breaks, and fixed it.

  • Strong with people data and reporting. You can pull it, make sense of it, and put it in front of leadership in a way they can actually use.

  • Real fluency with AI tools, with specific examples of how you've put them to work.

  • Bonus: supporting a distributed, multi-state (and ideally multi-country) workforce.

Benefits :
  • Work wherever you want! As a fully remote company with no central office, we want you to work wherever you are happiest and most productive. Whether that’s out of your home, a co-working space, or elsewhere.

  • Competitive cash and equity compensation in a hyper growth, early stage company 🚀.

  • Stipend to set-up your ideal working environment.

  • Competitive Benefit Plans for employees based on your location (e.g. in the US we offer: Medical, dental and vision benefits and the ability to contribute to a 401k plan).

  • Unlimited PTO.

  • 3 day weekend every month! We take off the “First Friday” every month to focus on rest, recuperation, or just having fun!

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
