Lead design, deployment, and management of datacenter networks (Juniper, Palo Alto); operate VMware hosts and Linux/Windows VMs; own physical datacenter operations, cabling, and hardware; support stakeholders and troubleshoot network/system outages; contribute to cloud network strategy.
Description
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join our NinjaOne and serve as the connectivity architect for our growing Datacenter Engineering team. Reporting to the Manager of Datacenter Engineering, you will be the network expert for our North Central Austin colocation facility, while also serving as a core contributor to our systems administration.
This is a hands-on, hybrid role (2-3 days onsite) where you will lead the deployment of our new Juniper and Palo Alto stack, turning a complex lab and testing environment into a stable, high-performance network.
While your primary focus is the physical datacenter network, you will also wear a Systems Engineer hat-managing VMWare hosts, troubleshooting Linux/Windows VMs, and supporting stakeholders. This is a rare opportunity to own the "plumbing" of a critical environment while influencing the broader cloud network strategy for our production systems.
You must be in the greater Austin Area and able to be onsite in our datacenter 2-3 days a week.

You must be in the greater Austin Area and able to be onsite in our datacenter 2-3 days a week.
What You'll be Doing
- Network Engineering: Design, deploy, and manage our datacenter network infrastructure, specifically Juniper switching/routing and Palo Alto firewalls, to ensure secure and reliable connectivity.
- Systems Administration: Operate as a full-stack engineer by managing physical servers, maintaining our VMWare environment, and provisioning Linux/Windows VMs to support Development, QA, and Sales stakeholders.
- Datacenter Operations: Own the physical layer in our colocation cage-from structured cabling and rack layouts to hardware installation-ensuring our "Wild West" environment is transformed into a disciplined operation.
- Stakeholder Support: Work directly with internal teams to understand their testing requirements and build the network segments and compute resources they need to succeed.
- Strategy & Growth: Collaborate with leadership to refine our datacenter architecture and use your expertise to influence network strategy for our cloud production environments.
- Troubleshooting: serves as the escalation point for network performance, latency, and connectivity issues, while assisting the team with broader system outages when needed.
- Other duties as needed
About You
- 8+ years of experience in network and systems engineering
- Proven experience building and managing datacenter networks, with a preference for Juniper switching/routing and Palo Alto firewalls.
- You are not just a network engineer; you have hands-on experience with VMWare (ESXi/vCenter) and can comfortably manage Linux and Windows servers.
- You understand that in a small team, "separation of duties" is flexible-you are willing to rack servers, debug software, and configure VLANs all in the same afternoon.
- The "Fixer" Mindset: You enjoy walking into unstructured environments and implementing standards, security, and organization.
- Experience Over Certifications: While certifications (JNCIA, PCNSA, CCNA) are a plus, we value practical, hands-on experience building and fixing complex environments above all else.
- Hybrid Availability: You reside within a commutable distance (approx. 30-45 mins) of North Central Austin and are willing to be onsite 2-3 days a week.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
