The Role: Senior Mechanical Engineer

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what’s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform mechanical design efforts for Switch’s Exascale data centers, ensuring resilience, efficiency, and compliance with Switch standards.
  • Supervise external engineering consultants and manage multiple concurrent design projects.
  • Develop and maintain mechanical design standards, specification templates, and the Basis of Design documentation.
  • Research and implement new technologies to improve mechanical systems and cooling strategies.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical papers.
  • Collaborate with vendors and manufacturers to specify and qualify mechanical equipment.
  • Ensure all designs meet applicable mechanical and plumbing codes, standards, and utility requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, AHJs, utilities, and construction partners throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct site visits for assessments, design reviews, consultant selection, and construction support.
  • Identify and lead initiatives to improve cost, quality, schedule, and consistency across data center sites.

What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience designing mechanical and piping systems for large-scale data center facilities.
  • Deep knowledge of cooling systems, controls, and site construction related to mechanical infrastructure.
  • Proficient in FEA and CFD-based analysis tools for evaluating mechanical performance and airflow.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and plumbing codes, standards, and utility requirements.
  • Skilled in managing external design consultants and issuing/reviewing RFPs.
  • Experience with design tools and software including Bluebeam, Excel, SmartSheet, MS Office, and Procore.
  • Ability to research emerging technologies and develop innovative mechanical design solutions.
  • Effective communicator with experience presenting technical papers and collaborating with AHJs, utilities, and cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel for site assessments, design reviews, and stakeholder meetings (less than 25% travel expected).
