Senior Markets Pricing – Actuarial Consultant

Position Summary:
The consultant in this role is a key member of the senior markets pricing team, within the Actuarial & Analytic Services department. This role provides the opportunity to work in a variety of functions, including pricing, product development, competitive analytics, financial planning, and forecasting. In addition, the consultant in this role will be responsible for analyses to support a variety of cross-functional initiatives with exposure to all areas of BCBSMA, with a focus on senior product strategy and Medicare Markets. This candidate must be a creative thinker with the ability to drive proposed technical solutions to completion. This individual must be able to work collaboratively with both technical and non-technical staff including Underwriting, Medicare Product Development, Provider Contracting, Sales, and others across the company.
This role is eligible for our Flex persona.
Key Accountabilities:
- Support various projects relating to complex issues and trends in Medicare Markets (such as pricing and financial planning, components of trend, drivers of premium change, competitive analyses, regulatory product compliance testing, and audit support), coordinating with several different disciplines and staff functions.
- A key focus is on building analytic tools to support Medicare Markets strategy and financial projections, and sharing recommendations based on analytic results.
- Initiate and lead efforts to continually improve data and analytic capabilities considering changing state and federal regulations along with market trends.
- Support complex financial analytical work related to Medicare and senior products.
- Provide effective technical and non-technical business advice and support to internal and external customers and management in meeting corporate goals and making strategic decisions.
- May be responsible for leading actuarial projects relating to complex issues and trends.
- Participate on ad hoc projects as needed to support business goals and corporate initiatives.
- Drives projects to completion, communicating results and facilitating implementation.

- Accurate financial analyses leading to clear recommendations with supporting rationale
- Ability to work on multiple projects and keep each moving forward
- Ability to draw together facts and input from a variety of sources, develop results and speak to ramifications of results
Qualifications (knowledge/skills/abilities/behaviors):
- Solid understanding of Medicare and its related financial models, including Medicare FFS, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, and Medicare supplemental coverage.
- Advanced technical and software application experience
- Strong analytic skills, preferably with actuarial background
- Customer service oriented with strong desire and ability to create “raving fans”
- Creative problem solver, able to assess problems, develop creative solutions and see solutions to completion
- Project planning and time management skills to work on a variety of projects under specific time restraints and deadlines
- Strong written and oral communication skills in a variety of settings (e.g. one-on-ones, presentations, group discussions.)
- Adaptable to new and varied responsibilities
- Team oriented/collaborative
Education/Relevant Experience:
- 2-5 years of Medicare pricing experience required
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA) or Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA), Member of American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) preferred

Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $139,700.00
The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.
This job is also eligible for variable pay.
