Job Purpose

As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at VulcanForms in Newburyport, MA, you will design, direct, and coordinate the production processes for our manufactured products. You will be involved in New Product Introduction and Continuous Improvement of existing products. You will strive to leverage new technology, advanced cutting techniques and automation equipment, and a host of LEAN manufacturing methods to improve quality and reduce cycle times and costs.


You will apply scientific principles to create processes to manufacture our components and sub-assemblies. You are a key team member in producing a wide range of products with a focus on cellular manufacturing and automation for a small subset of customers that have been identified by VulcanForms as keys to future success. Manufacturing engineers design the processes, procedures, work instructions, and systems by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, work holding, cutting tools, and materials to manufacture products to our customer's specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop solid models and detailed prints using the latest version of SolidWorks and Solidcam or Mastercam.
  • Design, develop, and implement fixtures and work-holding for a variety of process and part handling steps including machining, cleaning, marking, finishing, etc.
  • Write NC programs using the latest version of Mastercam or Solidcam. 
  • Develop detailed work instructions and process related quality documentation. 
  • Review and disposition of non-conforming material. 
  • Support operations with problem-solving, troubleshooting, and technical issues. 
  • Maintain configuration management by properly naming and saving electronic files and programs. 
  • Complete all work assignments, design, and development projects with minimal supervision. 
  • Enhance professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, establishing professional networks, and participating in professional societies. 
  • Contribute to the team environment by accomplishing results while cohesively working as a team member. 
  • Work within the framework and always abide by VulcanForms’ QMS (Quality Management System) and the requirements of the OSHA safety policies and procedures. 
  • Promote the use and adherence to our company's 7S and LEAN philosophies. 
  • Receptive to and communicate all ideas for continuous improvement. 
Qualifications
  • 15+ years experience within manufacturing or machine shop environments, with at least 5+ years of manufacturing engineering or CNC Programming experience 
  • Working knowledge of robotic loading and automation using Fanuc robots as well as other robot systems 
  • Working knowledge of 3D modeling 
  • Knowledge of AS9100, ISO 13485, or ISO 9001 standards. 
  • Expert knowledge of CNC machining with Multi Axis Mill-Turn Machine Centers and Vertical Mill Centers 
  • Knowledge of material post processes, including heat treatment, metal joining, coatings, NDT, assembly, and thermal barrier coatings 
  • Expert in blueprint reading and generation, GDT tolerance, composite tolerances, and dimensional inspection 
  • Expert in interpreting customer specs and flowdown requirements such as MIL standards, ASTM, ASME, ANSI standards, as well as specific customer language and supplementary requirements 
  • Thorough understanding of work-holding design utilizing SMED techniques 
  • Decision-making ability: display a willingness to make decisions; exhibit sound and accurate judgment; support and explain the reasoning. Include appropriate people in the decision-making process; make timely decisions. 
  • Demonstrated ability to program and operate CNC equipment with a strong focus on 5-axis and mill turn equipment 
  • Technical competence and a high degree of mechanical aptitude (understanding software, hardware, etc.) 

VulcanForms offers a competitive salary and equity package. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, VulcanForms provides comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; generous paid time off; and a 401(k) plan with company match. 

The annual base salary range for this position is $87,590 to $120,400.
