Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our Core Technology Hardware team! In this role, you will be responsible for engineering that supports our battery test vehicle manufacturing lines. As part of our manufacturing team, you will serve as a key technical leader in establishing build line equipment, processes, and efficient workflow. You will work cross-functionally with mechanical, test, and science teams to build a repeatable product that supports critical single cell battery data. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!

Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:
  • Drive new manufacturing line bringups as our existing products evolve or new test vehicles come online.

  • Lead technical assessment of manufacturing build processes for continuous improvement.

  • Triage existing line capabilities against new product revisions and custom R&D experiments.

  • Develop novel designs of mechanical & electromechanical manufacturing work stations.

  • Mentor the manufacturing team members, to bring experience that inspires and steers, while assimilating to a talented group with a proven track record of building repeatable manufacturing lines for green energy technology.

  • Establish standards and best practices for equipment design, vendor management, and commissioning, as well as standards for processes such as change control, documentation management, and cross team data collaboration.

  • Identify and mitigate manufacturing risks early through design reviews, DFMEA/PFMEA, and hands-on evaluation of vendor proposals.

  • Support critical hardware dispositions on the build floor to keep operations smooth and steady.

What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of relevant experience (battery or energy systems experience is a plus).

  • Hands-on experience with sensitive hardware including the use of tools, adhesives, proper PPE, and team operations.

  • Proficiency in mechanical CAD tools, software tools for project planning, and PDM/ERP systems.

  • Demonstrated experience in medium to high volume manufacturing lines of electromechanical products including new process development, value engineering exercises, and time-study cost savings efforts (experience in equipment automation is a plus).

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability and enthusiasm to balance safety, rigor, and speed.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with a solution-oriented mindset when faced with spur of the moment obstacles.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
