BJ’s Wholesale Club (NYSE: BJ) is a Fortune 250 company. The Senior Legal Counsel plays an integral role in supporting BJ’s on-going operations and must demonstrate excellent commercial sensibility and a team-first ethos. The Senior Legal Counsel advises company executives, negotiates complex commercial contracts, manages litigation, oversees compliance and regulatory matters, supports strategic transactions and projects, and otherwise supports the legal team and BJ’s business objectives.

Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Respond promptly to legal requests from business units across the company, including merchandising, IT, finance, marketing, analytics, operations, B2B, fuel, and transportation
  • Support executive leadership with sound, commercially minded advice
  • Support strategic transactional matters
  • Negotiate agreements consistent with company practices and risk tolerance
  • Manage litigation
  • Help create and continuously improve standard form agreements and legal processes
  • Advise on regulatory compliance including privacy, payments, and product-specific regulations
  • Supervise and manage outside counsel
  • Report to the Vice President, Associate General Counsel

Qualifications

  • J.D. from top-tier law school
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in contract negotiation and complex transactions
  • AmLaw 100 experience preferred; 6+ years in-house experience strongly preferred
  • Admitted to MA bar association, or eligible to practice pursuant to MA SJC Rule 4:02 (9)
  • Excellent commercial judgment and communication skills
  • Outstanding work ethic
  • Team-first ethos

This is a hybrid role. Tuesday through Thursday are in-office days at BJ's Club Support Center in Marlborough, MA and Monday and Friday are remote days.

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is $197,500.00 - $242,500.00
