Job DescriptionAbout the Legal Team
The Bose Legal team partners closely with internal stakeholders to deliver strategic, practical legal guidance that supports business goals while protecting the company’s global interests. We are trusted advisors who help shape business decisions, manage risk, and uphold Bose’s Essence and Values. Our work spans proactive business counseling, intellectual property protection, and rights enforcement.
IP Legal Counsel
We are seeking a mid-level intellectual property (IP) attorney to join our team as a principal legal advisor for one or more of Bose’s key product categories. This role involves close collaboration with internal clients, international legal colleagues, and outside counsel to deliver seamless, high-impact legal support.
Work model: This role reports into the Framingham, MA office on a hybrid basis, requiring Tues, Wed, Thursday weekly.
Key Responsibilities
Advise engineering and business leadership on IP strategy and risk management.
Oversee the global patent portfolio for assigned product categories.
Manage patent litigation and pre-litigation matters, including support for other product categories.
Conduct infringement assessments of competitor products.
Provide IP guidance in transactional matters, including technology licensing.
Identify and evaluate inventions from assigned product categories.
Lead patent committee meetings and facilitate invention disclosures.
Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses.
Manage the patent marking program for assigned business units.
Supervise and collaborate with outside counsel.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
Admission to at least one U.S. state bar and registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an IP attorney in a law firm or corporate legal department; a mix of both is preferred.
Technical background in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Physics is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with audio digital signal processing (DSP) considered a plus.
