We’re training and deploying frontier models for enterprises who are building AI systems. We believe that our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI and we are looking for folks that want to be part of that.

We obsess over what we build. Each one of us is responsible for contributing to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. Cohere is a team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are all passionate about their craft.

We are a global technology company co-headquartered in Toronto and San Francisco, with key offices in London, New York City, Montreal, Seoul, Germany and Paris. Join us!

Why This Role?

We're hiring a Senior HR Business Partner to help scale Cohere through an exciting phase of growth.

You'll be the lead HRBP for our Non-Technical organization, partnering with leaders across Finance, Legal, People, Go-to-Market, and Corporate Functions. While you'll work alongside another HRBP to deliver outstanding support across the client group, you'll own the overall partnership, set priorities across the function, and play a key role in hiring and onboarding your HRBP counterpart as the team grows.

At Cohere, Senior HRBPs are trusted advisors who shape how teams scale, leaders grow, and organizations perform. You'll influence organizational design, leadership effectiveness, talent strategy, performance, succession planning, and organizational health while helping leaders navigate rapid growth and change at one of the world's leading AI companies.

If you love building, thrive in ambiguity, and want to make a meaningful impact, you'll feel at home here.

You'll thrive if you:
  • Take ownership with strong judgment and low ego

  • Balance high standards with empathy

  • Enjoy fast-moving, evolving environments

  • Solve complex people and organizational challenges

  • Move seamlessly between strategy and execution

  • Build trust through influence and credibility

You'll help drive:
  • Organizational design and team effectiveness

  • Leadership coaching and capability

  • Performance, talent, and succession planning

  • Employee engagement and retention

  • The continued evolution of our People function

We're looking for someone who:
  • Has operated at Director-level HRBP scope, Head of People level, or equivalent

  • Has experience partnering with business functions such as Finance, Legal, People, Go-to-Market, or other corporate organizations

  • Has experience in startup, scale-up, or other high-growth environments

  • Has supported globally distributed organizations

  • Is an exceptional written communicator who thrives in async environments

Location: This role can be based remotely or from one of our office locations—there is no minimum in-office requirement. We care most about hiring exceptional people regardless of location. As you'll be partnering primarily with leaders based in the Eastern Time Zone, we're looking for someone who can provide significant overlap with Eastern working hours to enable close collaboration.

Cohere is committed to fair and transparent pay practices. The salary range listed for this role reflects the expected base compensation. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. For candidates in the United States, the Compensation Range is $130,000 - $240,000 USD

Full-Time Employees at Cohere enjoy these Perks:
  • A weekly lunch stipend of $75/£75 or equivalent in your local currency for lunch.

  • Full health and dental benefits, including a separate budget for mental health.

  • RRSP matching, 401K, Pension Scheme.

  • 100% Parental Leave top-up for up to 6 months, for either parent.

  • Annual enrichment benefits:

Arts & culture, fitness/wellness, quality time, and a workspace improvement credit.

Education & learning stipend for conferences, courses, and coaching.

  • 6 weeks of paid vacation (30 working days!)

  • Budget for traveling to other offices if you are remote, plus an annual company offsite.

How and Where We Work:
  • Cohere is remote-friendly. We have offices in Toronto, San Francisco, New York City, London, Paris, Montreal, and more coming soon.

  • For those in the office: a daily lunch program, plenty of snacks, and regular community and social events.

  • For those not near an office: a co-working benefit so you can work alongside others in your city.

  • Everyone receives a $500 home office stipend to set up your workspace properly.

If any of the above doesn’t line up exactly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply.

We strive to create an inclusive work environment for all; we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities. Should you require any accommodations during the recruitment process, please submit an Accommodations Request Form, and we will work together to meet your needs.

We may use AI-enabled tools to screen and assess applicants against the criteria for this position. This helps our recruiters identify potentially qualified candidates, but it doesn't limit the applications our recruiters may review or consider.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
