Here at Humanoid, we believe in a future where robots amplify human potential. That’s why we’ve set out on a mission to build the world’s most capable, commercially-scalable, and safe humanoid robots. We’re bringing that mission to life with HMND‑01 Alpha - our rapidly developed humanoid platform now running in real industrial pilots - and we’re growing the team to take it even further.

About the Role

As a Senior Functional Safety Engineer on our Systems Engineering team, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge safety-related systems for our industrial and home robots. You will be working closely with the Functional Safety Lead to support safety lifecycle activities and will be leading the development of safety-critical subsystems.

This is a high-impact role for an experienced engineer with a proven record of delivering and certifying safety-related systems, preferably in the robotics domain. If you have a strong understanding of functional safety fundamentals & industry standards, innovative thinking, and a capacity for detailed work on complex systems, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do
  • Lead or support activities across the complete safety lifecycle, starting from initial concept all the way to validation and certification.

  • Lead or support the development of novel safety assurance arguments, for individual subsystems as well as the overall products.

  • Contribute to safety concept definition and support detailed technical development of safety-critical systems.

  • Collaborate across disciplines to define, communicate, and validate safety-critical requirements for sensors, controllers, actuators including hardware and software.

  • Perform safety analyses like FMEA, FMEDA, FTA etc.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation to support the safety case, such as risk assessments, functional safety concept, safety requirement specifications (SRS), verification & validation plans and test reports.

  • Ensure compliance with regulations and international standards.

What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years experience and deep technical expertise in development of safety-critical systems.

  • Proven record of applying functional safety standards for embedded systems (e.g. IEC 61508, IEC 62061, ISO 13849, ISO 26262 or similar).

  • Experience with robotics safety standards (e.g. ISO 10218, ISO 13482, ISO 3691-4).

  • Experience with safety case development and certification, especially for autonomous systems.

  • Familiarity with safety standards for sensors and actuators (e.g. IEC 61496, IEC 62998, IEC 61800-5-2).

  • Understanding of AI functional safety standards is a plus (e.g. ISO/IEC TR 5469, ISO PAS 8800 or similar).

  • Hands-on experience of design, implementation and validation of safety systems for mobile robots or dynamic systems (e.g., AMRs, bipedal robots, exoskeletons, mobile manipulators or robots with collaborative applications).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; author technical documentation, navigate deep technical analysis with expert engineers, and deliver high-level summaries to an executive audience.

What We Offer
  • Comprehensive health coverage for US‑based employees, including fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance, with virtual care and employee assistance resources.

  • Meaningful time off to rest and recharge: 23 days of PTO (accrued), separate sick leave, and paid company holidays.

  • 401(k) retirement plan with 4% employer match.

  • Competitive equity: stock options with meaningful upside as we scale.

  • Free daily catered lunch, snacks, and drinks in‑office.

  • Collaboration with top‑tier engineers, researchers, and product experts in AI and robotics.

  • Freedom to influence the product and own key initiatives.
