Hi, we’re CompanyCam.

We’re a simple-to-use photo documentation and productivity app for contractors of all commercial and home services industries. Packed with intuitive functionality, CompanyCam facilitates unparalleled communication and accountability across a contractor’s entire business. We’re committed to providing a consumer-grade, game-changing experience that helps our users build trust within their company and with their customers.

But don’t let that corporate description fool you—the people behind our buttoned-up product are laid-back (but hardworking), genuine, and kickass, and you could be one of them!

The Role

We’re looking for a strategic, people-first, results-driven Senior Engineering Manager to join our Platform engineering team, overseeing a team of backend-focused engineers. We’re looking for a steady, experienced leader who can guide a high-growth team through ambiguity into sustained excellence.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for coaching and growing a high performing team of backend engineers, helping teams navigate ambiguity, and driving delivery with a focus on impact and quality. You’ll partner closely with other leaders across Engineering, Product, and Design to shape priorities, foster collaboration, and eliminate blockers, tackling everything from huge company initiatives to modest but important bug fixes, from start to finish. Your team will proactively ensure that CompanyCam’s reliability, performance, and compliance keep pace with our expansion. You’ll collaborate with some of our most experienced engineers to set direction for backend architecture and operational excellence.

Most importantly, you’ll help evolve our engineering organization—whether that’s by mentoring others, leading cross-team initiatives, refining hiring practices, or just modeling what good leadership looks like. We’re looking for someone who’s excited to invest in both people and systems, and who knows that building great teams is just as important as shipping great code.

Working At CompanyCam

Our engineering team is remote-first, spanning every time zone in the United States. We welcome people from all backgrounds and really don't care whether or not you have a CS degree or even a high school diploma. All that matters is that you're not an a**hole and you're good at what you do.

At CompanyCam, our Platform Engineering team is driven to create meaningful impact by building a solid foundation that empowers product engineers to do their best work. Instead of just patching issues or adding tools, we focus on eliminating bottlenecks and designing systems that scale, so teams can move faster and with confidence. We’re guided by a spirit of continuous improvement, always reflecting and learning from how our platform supports the business.

So, how do we actually work? We take a flexible, collaborative approach, drawing from Agile, Kanban, and other frameworks where they fit, without being locked into one rigid process. Our role is to provide the guardrails, core frameworks, and operational awareness that give product teams the freedom to innovate. Within those boundaries, we iterate, refine, and evolve practices that strengthen developer experience, improve system resilience, and ensure our core technologies remain secure, stable, and efficient.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and develop a team of backend engineers, driving engagement, retention, and performance.
  • Provide regular feedback, coaching, and career development support.
  • Proactively address performance concerns and foster a growth mindset culture.
  • Ensure delivery predictability, technical quality, and reliable execution of business goals.
  • Create an environment where the team thrives through clear communication, strong processes, and positive culture.
  • Remove blockers, prioritize effectively, and align team focus with the highest-impact work.
  • Partner with tech leads and cross-functional stakeholders to drive planning, solution design, and collaboration.
  • Act as hiring manager: recruit, interview, make offers, and build high-performing teams.
  • Anticipate future hiring needs, and design onboarding experiences that set new hires up for success.
  • Contribute to department-wide initiatives, sharing feedback on processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Identify and manage dependencies between teams, championing alignment and collaboration.
The Impact You’ll Have

At CompanyCam, your work makes a real impact. Whether you're writing code, supporting customers, or designing experiences, your contributions directly shape the product we deliver and the people we serve. We're building something that helps real people solve real problems—and we believe that kind of work is best done by a team that reflects the world around us. In this role, you’ll drive impact:

  • The team you lead will ship smarter, faster, and more reliably—delivering meaningful business value without burning out
  • Engineers will grow in their careers and feel supported, engaged, and excited to do their best work
  • Your leadership will shape a culture of ownership, curiosity, and craftsmanship across the org
  • Technical quality will improve, with thoughtful tradeoffs made between speed, maintainability, and long-term vision
What You’ll Bring

Must haves:

  • Show up: Give us your best and have the courage to do difficult but necessary stuff
  • Grow up: Be humble, take responsibility, learn continuously, and have a growth mindset
  • Do good: Treat your co-workers and customers the way you want to be treated
  • 3+ years of experience managing people in a team context, including developing strong performers
  • Proven experience leading backend teams through significant technical scale-ups or architectural transformations.
  • Senior level engineering experience with a focus on backend or infrastructure
  • Experience successfully managing multiple complex projects
  • Strong experience interviewing and hiring software engineers
  • Growth mindset, adaptability, and a knack for creativity and innovation

Nice-to-haves:

  • Familiarity with Continuous Discovery Habits
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails
Benefits & Compensation

This is a salaried position at CompanyCam. Our starting salary range is $200,000 - $230,000 per year and is based on experience. We also offer meaningful equity and other benefits.

Great ideas come from all backgrounds, and we carefully consider every applicant without regard to personal characteristics or traits. Even if your work experience doesn’t align perfectly, we encourage you to apply. What really matters to us is your potential, your passion, and your commitment to learning, innovation, and contributing meaningfully to our team.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
