Role Summary

Renew Home is looking for a strong backend Software Engineer to join our Consumer Experience team and help drive the day-to-day experiences of our customers. In this role, you will work with product, analytics, and the engineering team to develop new features that shape how customers can interact with our product.

What You Will Do

  • Design, develop and build backend features to support a wide variety of Renew Home customer experiences and third-party device integrations to enable energy saving automation
  • Execute software projects in a predictable and timely manner, taking into account necessary ancillary components like security, privacy, and testing.
  • Rearchitect and optimize existing systems to support significant user growth.
  • Work with cross-functional teams consisting of engineering, product management, business development, operations, and marketing.
  • Work on many aspects of our stack: Python, PostgreSQL, Prefect, AWS/GCP (CDK, ECS/EKS, RDS, Redshift, S3, SQS, SES, or equivalent in GCP), Ubuntu, Apache, Redis, Git, Jira.
  • Participate in our agile development process - regular team updates, standup meetings, 1-on-1’s, and peer code reviews.
  • Improve code quality and contribute to team growth through design and code review.
Requirements
  • 4-8 years of industry experience building backend software services.
  • Bachelors/Masters degree in computer science or demonstrated experience in the software industry.
  • Strong SQL skills, proficiency with SQL databases (MySQL, Oracle, Postgres, Redshift, etc.).
  • Strong software engineering background and proficiency in one or more of Python, Java, PHP, Ruby.
  • Ability to break down complex work into manageable deliverables.
  • Strong leadership skills and proven ability to design, build, and ship features.
  • Track record of collaborating within engineering and without.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail; ability to independently debug complex issues, diagnose issues or gaps, propose solutions, and escalate appropriately.
  • Bonuses:
    • Experience with scalable distributed data processing.
    • Experience with AWS Lambda/Cloud functions, pub/sub, AirFlow, Prefect.
    • Experience with cloud automation and infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK.
    • Experience in the electric power industry.
